Not to mention the attention to detail in the actual fighting styles. Vader couldn’t lift his arms above his head without extreme difficulty, and loved overpowering his opponents. It was either Mace or Yoda, but one of them referred to Obi as a true master of the defensive style and likely the best living master of it. (type 2 I believe); and that showed here, a style that is designed to make it seem like the user is struggling and exerting themselves far more than they actually are, leading to the opponent tiring themselves out as they attempt to quickly bring down a foe they incorrectly believe is on his last leg.

@@Kylian.aep7 that’s it! I knew he and Dooku were side by side in number! Dooku’s style was also designed to let the opponent over exert themselves, much like obi, which is why that fancy fencing fuck always took out Obi quick and not with a saber, because he knew he didn’t have the stamina to play that kind of long sword fight at his age. I could have googled this or looked at the like 4 books I own that say this… but I didn’t!

@@pastaplumber9000 I think flashy over practical suits George Lucas' style over all. He's always been fascinated by those _really old_ films that were just glorified, trippy light shows, and I have no doubt that was his inspiration for the lightsaber fights. Especially the portion of Anakin vs Dooku in Episode II when the lights go out. People will always try to use lore or logic to justify creative decisions (I used to, too), but sometimes art and ideas are more important than realism, in my opinion. I certainly find it more interesting.

@@sillyking1991 It was mostly because the actors Alec Guinness (Obi Wan) and David Prowse (Suit of Vader) were already "old" (mid-life) without any specialized training (they were average humans, not super fit actors)... not to mention Prowse was in a big, bulky, heavy suit with limited mobility. Had less to do with the actual props
@zaclaplant30015 ай бұрын
@@derekhudson3415 Sure, that's why he made the prequels the way he did. Not "Old" but too old for fancy tricks having not been trained professionally for fancy tricks), expensive props, Vader's heavy and low-mobility suit, and a STRICTLY low-budget and poor special effects for 1977. They had Anakin scream "I hate you!" in the direction of Vader. They had Obi Wan screaming "You were my brother Anakin, I loved you!". @@DerSpeggn That's not true. There are multiple stories of them doing re-writes. For instance, in Return of the Jedi, they talked about making Luke's sister a new character, but then switched it out for Leia in the name of simplicity and tying up loose ends. Also: Luke and Leia smooching a couple of times feels weird if they were always twins. I totally buy that Lucas had more planned out in terms of backstory, but I don't believe for a second it was as mapped out as he likes to claim. I'll believe that when I believe J.J. Abrams had Lost mapped out beginning-end.

No this version wouldn't work in the original A New Hope. It is a fascinating well done work those guys did, very well executed and feeling for details indeed! But it wouldn't work since the idea of having Obi and Vader being older and therefore not as agility as they where when they where young is shown clearly in the original one. It is also displayed in ESTB and RTJ. This master piece of re-make is and will only exist in the imaginary and soul of the makers and the awed viewers ( I am one of them), but it wouldn't just work in the original film, sorry. I can try to give an explanation. This remake has the "fight" we've seen before: its fast, its cool and its brutal. That one on its own works pretty fine! But in the original movie, it was more than that. It was about an old master meeting an old student, and the weight in the scenes are precisely just that: they are older and therefore slower, which gives the depth and leaves the viewer with the though and imaginary how they where as younger. It has a certain touch to it, thats why I think this version wouldn't work in the original film.

Presence, they chose Vader as a 6 foot 6 bodybuilder (prowse) to give him presence, shame you don't get to see this kind of thing really I think it's partly the ricochet that does it, in the film's lightsabers act a bit like magnets- once they hit, they "stick"

So of course at the time, the amazingly choreographed and beautifully scored Duel of the Fates was only "Notable", which really irritated me. They didn't even do much in the original fight, they just kinda stood there, and touched lightsabers. 4:43 It is always those moments. That changes a individual to their true potential; moments where people create their own nightmares out of those they pretended to love. They loved what they thought you would be; what they hoped you would be. Not realizing what it does to you. The guilt of your fall rest on your shoulders for entertaining others delusions. The pain, the agony, the betrayal. They realize your realization. That they are the source of your torturous torment. Then they see you as a monster of their own guilt and failure. Poetic how they create their own monster, from their own misguided actions an feelings. For where Love an hope is sowed. So is hate and despair.

That's Obi-Wan's fighting style, soresu. Very effective against Sith, they get so deep in their rage and emotion, that they're more focused on destroying the opponent than defending themselves, and that's when he attacks. That's how he could've beaten Vader here.

Being saber-locked with Vader in a narrow hallway while he tells you "there is no escape" is probably the most terrifying thing that could happen to someone in the galaxy. Next to probably being eaten by a sarlacc, being chased by a rancor, or surviving for just a day on Felucia.

It shows that even though these movies and the time periods within them are separated by decades, these are still the same characters. You never see a connection between Anakin/Vader in his full suit like this in the movies.

Exactly! Remember, Vader waited 20 years for his revenge against Obi-Wan - revenge for destroying his body; revenge for turning Padme against him and - atleast according to Vader - leading him to kill her too. You would think that Vader wouldn't hold back at all once he meets Obi-Wan against, and here we see it in this scene. While the original was still great if it was in a standalone film, I think this scene fits much better in the complete trilogies of Star Wars. Of course, the irony that you get to see in this scene is that Luke, Padme's son, gets to watch Vader go all out at Obi-Wan for supposedly killing Padme and their children (indirectly). Though, I suppose Vader can still get revenge for getting mangled and nearly left to be a pile of burning ash on Mustafar.

I love the fact that Darth Vader literally started the battle weilding his saber with both hands. In most battles I see him in, he usually just uses one. He knew from the start that Obi-Wan (old age and all) was still a formidable opponent.

i feel like he is trying to scare him with his new but limited power, you can tell he is trying but I almost feel as if he wants to scare obi wan then kill him with a crazy killing blow after wearing him (obi wan) out. I dont see darth vader taking the time that he did to kill obi wan when he has fought much more powerful opponents like star killer for longer. I do like though that obi wan is still putting up a fight, this was beautiful. Vader was unleashing everything as almost trying to prove to obi wan what he tried to do on mustafar, wearing him out then killing him with a huge blow.

Not at all millennials. Not even close remember during this time we played outside with toy guns pretended to sword fight, jumped hills on our rampars (look that up) we had Saturday morning cartoons played with our GI joe and six million dollar man dolls in the dirt, had Kung fu matches at the back of the church. Drank from the hoses in the yard. The Cookie Monster ate cookies (Thank god for no bitchass Elmo). We fought our bullies back hard (some how they would end up being your best friend after the fight win or lose). Used or imagination for dungeons and dragons. We talked to girls and could hold their interest with great game (not swipe to the left.) I could go on and on the NYC I grew up in in the 70’s and 80’s was far more dynamic then than is now. Going to Night clubs at 14yrs old seeing the birth of punk rock, hip-hop and house music. Hearing and seeing a complete mix of races and languages and one of the best things of all Star Wars. No concept of culture no future.
