02- The Mellotron Micro- Interface

Here is part one of a two-part exploration of the interface of the Mellotron Micro.
The theme was created using presets from the Mellotron Micro, with a KORG 2600M providing bass, and using drum loops from GarageBand.

What you don't get is the natural-ness of when the french horn note is stopped. The cut off when you end the note is very synth-like.

The two octave keyboard makes it no more than a good-sounding toy - like the Yamaha Reface,with their tiny keys - or an oversized module. As for the sound, while it's nice to have the option of pristine tapes, no Mellotron ever sounded like the master-tape. The Manikin Memotron took their samples from the output of an actual Mellotron, so had all the vibe of the real thing.

@@SamLibman Then it becomes the oversized desktop module, as I said above. Not simping for Manikin here, but they actually do have a desktop Memotron module, without the toy keyboard.

@@mickeythompson9537 If you do some research on how wide of a range melodies typically are, you'll find a vast majority fit within 2 octaves. And the keyboard on the Mellotron Micro is a quality keybed with full sized keys so, it's not a toy, it's a serious and quality instrument! 😎

Well, of the new versions, I’ve only played this one. But I can see the appeal of the features of the others. I think this is getting the most for the least, though.
