Granada Television was a great place to work at in 1961. Granada Television was one ITV region which actually cared about its viewers. Sidney Bernstein the owner knew his audience very well. He insisted on Granada airing its 7 hours of regulated programming from 5pm to Midnight, as he knew people in the region preferred late night viewing than ending at 11pm.

By eck that Christine was a beautiful girl. I'd dance with her till that record wore clean through. THAT is a sexy scene. Nice music, romantic, dancing, they keep their clothes on. The threat of something more makes it interesting. Will they? Won't they? Now its just sleaze. You know they will, even if they loathe one another. It seems obligatory in the show now. Sleazy, far fetched nonsense. These old episodes however, I could watch on repeat till hell freezes over. The acting, the writing... phenomenal!

In 1961, the Pilkington Committee recommended two new stations to be created, one by the BBC and one independent station. BBC 2 was given the go ahead to start by 1964, the independent one, later to be named Channel 4 was left up in the air due to ITV financial issues.
