A few weeks ago, we wanted to go to the toilet but couldn't. because we don't have a working toilet. We have been working towards that day where we can finally use the toilet. Will today be that day?
Probably not, but it's getting closer. We are using a chemical toilet while we repair and work towards a working septic system. Also, we welcome some amazing friends from Belgium. They are lending us an extra hand for a few days.
Join us today as we work on all kinds of things around the villa. After all, with five people, you can get some real stuff done.

My name is Sam and together with my girlfriend Lyanne, I am on a quest to restore the beauty of this old Italian villa from 1895. Join us as we have to let go of our Dutch habits to fit in in our Italian surroundings, were the word 'plan' gets redefined and our tastebuds are awakened.
The goal of this project is to show that with limited financial means and a lot of optimism we can resurrect the beauty of this abandoned villa in a green and sustainable way. But most of all learn from everything that we encounter and enjoy it whilst we're at it.

Replace the broken section with a PVC tee access at the top or more throughly install a newer system that includes a septic tank to separate waste from water to avoid dumping solids into the river!

Next time water well the stones you want to unite before putting the concrete. It provides a much better connection and prevents micro gaps. Although I think that new plastic pipes would be the correct and durable solution, along with a septic tank. My best wishes to your project !

By all means. You can not discharge sewage / black water / fecal matter untreated into a stream! That is how cholera is made... And leaky sewage pipes are a complete no-go. It is OK for rainwater, but not even for grey water. You have to install all new piping and connect to the sewage system of the municipality. Or install septic tanks to treat the sewage before release. Your local municipality should have a building code or the like in place that tells you what has to be done.

Isn't it easier to install a new septic tank complete with perforated PVC pipes? At least that's what we did here in Thailand for each of the 5 houses. My ex-husband is remodeling a villa in Portugal and he brings PVC pipes with him from Thailand on every flight there. He knows all the systems and is most satisfied with the lightweight pipes because they are easy to replace and require little effort

Understand constraints on finances but you did mention waste going to river, which i believe you said is little. Surley theres a step inbetween where the solid waste is held and relativly clean water runs off. As in a septic tank.

I think you should excavate the pipe and put a new plastic one in (when you find the septic tank)

Even in 1860, Italy had sanitary sewers (the separation of human waste and stormwater). Maybe it’s time to get a local plumber to help you find your septic tank. It most likely is completely separate from the gutter drains in the narrow space between the walls.

By all means take risks with grey water if you use appropriate detergents but you are going to have to use composting toilets until you install a new / relined connection to the town sewers or install a new septic tank. It doesn’t have to be a rustic composting toilet - there are some that look like normal toilets even ones that flush and separate in to tanks in the basement that are not expensive

Might be easier and less time consuming to replace the whole system. I definitely wouldn't use any of the existing sewer system.,,,it's shot!

You can have a sewer company put a trenchless lining in your existing system. There are several kinds. They are done in lots of countries. Some are epoxy based others are a thermal plastic based. They blow up in your existing system like a long balloon then harden/cool in place. This puts a seamless inner liner inside the existing pipes. They are pretty neat. My cousin in Holland had it done recently. I have a brother that works in that industry here in the USA. It's pretty cool.

If you have a fracture line there are solutions. Run a new line system, while it does involve cost your sure of its location and security. Second one is to have the current line "relined". Its as good as new when done and should come with a time guarantee. This service is usually carried by professionals

when mixing concrete add a few squirts of washing-up liquid, it keeps the concrete playable and workable for longer plus wet all surfaces to be mated to stop old concrete pipe sections from sucking the water out of the concrete helps to stop shrinkage and cracking of new concrete. better way to go, buy a new section of concrete pipe and fit that

Why don’t you pour buckets of water into the openings where you think the drains are and see which way the water is draining out the bottom layer of his seeing that the camera is not being of any help that might help you a little to figure things out a little better .

noooo!

I don't understand this madness about repairing the water drainage system which is apparently obsolete. I don't know in Italy, but in France where I live, there is a legal obligation for the buyer to comply with standards for obvious reasons of health and environmental safety. they are even European directives. Have you inquired with the town planning department at the town hall? and ask for the help of a professional, this is the minimum in this type of repair. everyone has their own job, we cannot improvise as a specialist in wastewater evacuation, the health and environmental risk is obvious. same thing for electricity

Why don't you put a new piece of pipe in? Clearly it was a weak spot... And the rest might collapse as well in due time.... It is a whole lot of work to open it.. again... UPDATE: after reading all the comments below... Please renew the whole thing in it's entirety. And please take heed of all the good advise below! This "brandjes blussen" will only cause future problems.. Do it good in one time or make an entire new sewage system.

@johnthomson1579
@johnthomson1579 8 ай бұрын
@@Villa_Oliva I think systemic weedkiller is rendered inactive by soil. If you bought a fairly good sprayer and sprayed by spring you would be left with clear land. You need to buy one for tough weeds for brambles are hard to kill. Unless you get them out by the root they simply reappear. Systemic weedkiller gets down to the roots. I don’t know if you have Japanese knotweed - it is everywhere and very difficult to eradicate. Regular application of systemic weedkiller works but it is a battle. You are probably more committed to not using insecticides than I am. I’m really enjoying your videos and admire your strength and energy and that of your father.
