I want to use the "mask pen" tool to mask a straight line. Like literally, draw a line but it's a mask. Can I do that? How do I do it?

I can SEE Backface Mask on the left of your screen, but I can't seem to find it anywhere in my tool pallet, even under the Masking button. I am customizing my workspace and I want Backface Mask on my UI, but, I am pulling my hair out trying to find it. Obviously, I am looking under the wrong heading. I have literally clicked on every tool and subtool heading and so far, NOTHING. I really need it for my projects. It's such a wonderful tool. Excellent video, though. Definitely a "Thumbs-Up!" from me. 5:48 I've been trying to figure out how you're moving masks around on the surface of the object. You state "Now, if I HOLD down CTRL and I go to my alphas, you can actually bring in shapes here." But, when I hold down CTRL, the cursor icon immediately changes into the last mask tool I designated. So, no matter HOW MANY times I try to do what you're doing, which is apparently, holding down CTRL and then going into alphas and grabbing the alpha you want, then miraculously dragging it open OUTSIDE on the workspace, and, then moving it ONTO your sculpt, which you are then able to move around willy nilly. I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out why I can't do what you're doing. What am I doing wrong? What tool or subtool do I not have turned on or turned off on my workspace/tool pallet that you're able to do what you're doing? MAMA! I WANT MY MAMA!!! LOL! Oh! I read ALL of the comments below and found the answer! Doh! Mom! I don't need you now! LOL! Nope. Nope. "Hold CTRL and SPACEBAR" ... nope, that's definitely NOT doing what you're doing in your tutorial. Darn it! What am I doing WRONG?

it's turning on and off backface masking on the brush itself, it's under the Brush menu > Automasking > Backface mask

@@MichaelPavlovich Yeah, my best friend, who's been teaching me Z-Brush said the same thing. He also said that it's not in a very logical location, but then, sometimes you can't explain engineers and software designers. lol! Anyway, thank you for responding and explaining. I did something and now when I press shift, control or alt, my brush changes to a mask pen and doesn't smooth or take away etc. I don't know how to change it back. Do you know how to fix this?

I choose same "STAR" alpha with CTRL --> CTRL+drag outside model --> press&hold SPACEBAR --> drag my mask over model. When i release SPACEBAR and mouse button, i just got rectangular masked area instead my star-shaped mask (((

how to convert a masked area into plygroup so that is seperated from the original mesh ? Like this star you showed in this video, how i can extract or convert them ? thanks

sure; in fact, literally subtool > extract will work!

@@wolfgangmerneg5277 you'll have to use the alpha to polypaint > convert to a mask, or the alpha to drag-dot/rect your mask on the object, then subtool > extract, unless I'm misunderstanding

Can we draw a shape brushing and fill it up? C4D allows us to do that but I don't know how to do it in Zbrush.

Thank you for answering this question! That is one of my big Pet peeves about the zbrush tutorials they make is they will teach something without explaining certain steps necessary to actually function of what they are teach. It's a lot like teaching someone how to drive a car but then forgetting to explain the brakes.

where is the tap button? i dont know

You probably figure it out by now, but there is no "tap" button. You literally just tap your stylus on your drawing pad, or, if you're using a CENTIQ or some sort of a touch-screen drawing tablet like a Huion or iPad etc., then you just tap right on your tablet with the stylus.
