Tier 1: $5/month or such. Tier 2: pay what you want. No need for names in credits, early access, etc, as all it does is create more work for you, which requires more money, thus negating the benefit of actually getting more money. Just keep doing more of what you're doing but on a regular basis and slowly integrate more additional content. Perhaps some collaborations with other channels, some exploration of software technologies, equipment reviews, etc. And if you want more ideas, start a forum or such and have we viewers throw some ideas at ya and pick whatever you think will work -- no need for you to go at it all alone. Having said that, I hope the next part of the year is more mundane relative to what you've recently experienced and thanks for taking the time to post the content that you have.

I understand your main focus is on big fiber jobs like you have been showing on your videos, but for those of us who are amateurs and just trying to set up good home networks, maybe some focus on residential installs. Best practices on cabling, retrofits for existing homes, wiring for new homes. Also setting up wifi with extenders or multi access points to cover larger homes or multiple buildings. Maybe diagnosing partially cut cables, finding the break and pulling replacement wires through the walls.

Wow. I really don't know how you are making it especial living there. I just recently was diagnosed with a brain condition similar to Parkinson disease. I've been out of work for months and was on short term disabilities through my IT job. I was denied long term disabilities due to pre existing conditions. I have been lucky enough to have some amazing friends so I have a roof over my head but with no money at all coming in it is almost impossible to live. You just have to hang in there and see whats next. Thanks for the awesome videos they keep me entertained.

I agree with what some others have said about tiers. Forget about a bunch of tiers, and focus on something like a base tier which just has a thanks on the videos (or on a website), a middle tier with early access to videos, like say a week early, and a high tier with access to an exclusive Q&A session or group chat type thing, maybe once a month. I'd make those videos public after the fact (again, maybe a week delay). I'd probably pitch in something around $5/month. I also agree that some videos on tool comparisons, perhaps budget ideas (how to make a decent budget network install, focusing more on the infrastructure and not the switch/router side of things), etc.

Wow, sorry to hear things have been so rough for you these past months. The universe does have a strange way of pushing you in new directions. As you mentioned it sounds like a break from your normal activities could be good - you have so many possibilities ahead of you in terms of what you can do with your channel which most likely will equal compensation. There are so many people here including myself that would love to support what you do though Patreon. How about taking some time to do quick reviews on your favorite go-to tools? Or what about doing a series of videos on proper usage of zip ties and how to use them to build structured bundles of wires? All of those could easily be done from your workstation area so you don't have to move around a lot. There are so many topics you could cover to share your knowledge, and so many of us that want to soak it up! I think it's about time for a FiberNinja Academy! :)

I guess there are a lot of things you could show and teach right from your desk, all the nitty gritty details that pros would call experience: like different cable types, which to use when, reviewing Networking Equipment, how to design a network from the "software" side, i.e. how to set up the UniFi Software stack, what types of Internet connections are used, what the tradeoffs are. I could probably continue the list forever. Just remember that KZbin is a huge place and these small how-to videos (they needn't be longer than maybe 2-3 Minutes each) will be what attracts people to your channel if they just search for "How to install a keystone jack". They will have some material they can then watch from your longer videos. And you can get back to making those longer, in-the-field videos when you are back on track with your foot! Surely a man with your skills and attention to detail would be an incredible asset to any IT contractor? What I wonder is what your level of attention to detail costs the small businesses who hire you, and can/will they afford it. If I were you, I would consider making a 'digest' video, with several before and afters, then contact all the small IT businesses in your area (I'm a Brit, so may not have a realistic understanding of what's local in the US!) and I'm sure you would be instantly used. Of course, your ankle injury notwithstanding. But I wish you the very best of luck. I'm not as valuable of an asset to most IT contractors as you may think. In their eyes, I take too long to do a normal job (and I completely understand their viewpoint). What I've accepted in this last year is that the clientele that I need to be marketing myself to are more of the high-end type that aren't looking for the "lowest bidder" to do their work. I've actually outright said that to some prospective clients: "If you're looking for a lowest bidder with my estimate of this work, don't bother. I'm not and probably never will be the lowest bidder on a job."

In this case I think an introduction is crucial, as I know most of them are buried in sales calls! 5:23 OMG love the Arctic Cooling fan!!! If you like low noise, high flow check out Deepcool fans (i.e. UF 120) they have full rubber frames and run real nice at 5v (i.e. USB powered) for complete silence or 7v (computer power supply +5v feed negative, +12v feed positive, = 7 volts) for almost silent. GREAT for cooling cabinets.

Every computer I've ever built, including my own rig, has always used Arctic Cooling fans! Loved the PWM "sharing" connections. "Freezer" CPU heatsinks, etc. My local supplier stopped carrying them about a year ago and switched to Deepcool so other than having to buy PWM splitters for computer builds, I like them equally as much. Lets see if they last as long as the Arctic Cooling though! NEVER had one go bad, ever.

Sorry to hear your woes, much love from Scotland. You need to be careful that you don't alienate the KZbin crowd, the organic growth you get from here is too valuable. The biggest shouts that you get are "show me!"...in one variety or another... The most valuable videos that you can do are the ones that imbue other people with skills that in turn make their jobs easier or could potentially make them money - just an observation and potentially worth keeping in mind.

Alright, I wouldn't worry too much about patreon tiers, I fund content I enjoy and you're a growing channel so doing much tier-who-knows-what consumes your time and doesn't make you grow. If you truly want to add tiers then you need just about 1-3 levels. Supporter (list their name at end of credits or at start of the video, i don't care if my name is listed or not), Early-Bird (give access to content from 1 to 7 days early). Most Patreon supporters just truly want to support starting channels until they can get more money from youtube advertisements. Also a tip: You will receive a ton "review our product for XXX dollars and make sure you do not make us look too bad". Make a statement about your policy to review anything if you decided to do them ever. You can check Louis Rossman's or Eevblog's Dave Jones way to do it. They both explain in their videos why they did not do or did certain reviews and what kind terms they consider just to be bullshit. Most people on their channels watch entire very long videos from start to stop and your audience is pretty much same.

Well believe it or not, it's even worse! The most recent episode here, I got hacked and someone took over complete control of my channel and started pushing a bitcoin scam. I lost over 4K subscribers before I managed to get the channel restored. Then about a week or two later, my channel was demonetized with the accusation of employing "reused content". I have been fighting with KZbin for the past week now trying to get my channel back. It's been an absolute nightmare. But yes, I have plans to return. It just seems like every time I get somewhat close to publishing something, another wammo comes my way!

Man what a clusterfsck! I think you should keep your patreon simple for now. Having merch etc is going to increase your overhead. Have exclusive videos, and maybe a tier for Live Q&A where people can send in questions on a live stream and you can answer. Livestream will also allow donations. If you need help getting your equipment back add some stuff to an Amazon wish list and post the wish list in your video description. Hopefully someone can buy it for you via the wishlist (it will even get delivered to you). You can give them a shoutout on the channel etc. Start working with manufacturers for them to send you stuff to do reviews on. You can even do giveaways to help increase your audience. Life sometimes has a way of clearing out the crap and releasing you from things weighing you down. While life on the same token can also be very cruel, trust that it will all balance out. For what it's worth, you look healthier now than you have before considering what has happened. When life gives you lemons, make lemon hand grenades - breach and clear :P Hope 2018 works out amazing for you ;)
