It's been a while hasn't it?! Good to be back and up and running again. This was an interesting small job to do but I think it showcases a situation where running long patch cables is better than direct runs like I've shown in many other videos I've published here.

Have a hunch the customer will get what they asked for and not be happy because it doesn't provide what what they needed and why they brought in a professional like FiberNinja in the first place. EDIT: pressing play again. EDIT2: Another minute in and a solution has to be found to address the owner/customers idiocy. Uff, why can the peanut gallery not avoid messing with their own needs. Let the work get done and ask for changes later, don't be a micro-manager. Horse by committee... pressing play again LUL

It's a bit hard to explain and frankly I'm not even sure I could describe what I do. I'm going to try in some upcoming episodes though. I think a lot of it has to do with being able to identify what each component does in the network, and just sitting there staring at it for a while!
@W1ldTangent

@@FiberNinjaStudios That's pretty much my process.. I can try to explain maybe? Learn as much as you can about what connects to what and how it generally "flows", either just from visually/physically tracing the connections and/or running NMAP, getting into every web interface and peeking at whatever you can to map it out. Not once have I ever seen a "network map" that even nearly portrayed reality lol, sometimes the customer is helpful, most times not. And then you just ponder what needs to be moved and where until it all crystallizes into full form inside your head with minimal conflict.

AC Infinity fans. I use the temperature controlled ones for network rack + for a PS4, so it keeps it cooler & more quiet vs the built-in fan. For the network gear, I really like the temperature control; It boosts the fans up to higher speeds during the day when temperatures are higher, but goes to near or complete silence at night when no need. step1: consentrate/condense devices why have 5 or 6 descreet modems when you can sell them an get a multi interface router that saves space and ease management...?(obviously that is depending on the client and how much he is willing to spend) step 2: reorganise/colorcode/lable the cabling based on what portion of the network is it serving (end devices//infrastucture/WAN) step 3: make it clean.. unfortunatly the customer wants to pay as little as possible so you have to work with what you have... one question..! how do you map the network? you got a program or just login to routers/switches and write everything down?

Great job, FiberNinja! I've been checking your channel every other day for updates, in case YT algorithm has booted you from my channel updates, so annoying. The thing that bothers me most about messy cabling is the amount of dust that collects on every cable. Do you usually start by doing some kind of dusting (to keep the nose/lungs clean)?

I don't usually set out to remove that much dust as it usually goes away after I've been handling the equipment for a few days!

It must be great to go out on jobs/projects with you [I am a major fan of overnight labor ... people are out of the way at night]. You are a "Jedi Master" of network room re-organization!

Thanks for responding. I have a great respect for industry pros who share their knowledge with other aspiring techs. I am recent community college graduate who changed my major from computer info systems & networking to multimedia communications (the switch saved me another year of school) - - I got spoiled by my first foray into radio broadcasting. I DID NOT let go of my long-held instinct for imagining network layouts in various building spaces. I have enjoyed joining you vicariously by watching your on-site work (the gate you did for the older lady seemed to take you to your limits). The backroom of the LA restaurant got more effort than the owners deserved. I continue to applaud your style of cable management and I plan to deepen my own 'love' of zip ties. Write back anytme, Warrenb330
