Being satisfied with what I already have is the key, human nature includes greed and envy which leads to selfishness and bitterness both of which will chew on the Soule. There may be a few things I would like, but very little I need, we spent the last forty years building what we now have, some with a bit of luck but most with determination and hard work. We built our home, raised a family and created a lifestyle, all we need to do now is maintain it and enjoy it, before I give it all to our children 😄

A call by my doctors to have my jabs checked in Malaysia, he asked if I wanted a full blood test for a fiver more. They discovered cancer, and with a lot more examinations I underwent surgery for its removal. A course of laser treatment around the area all paid for by my company's insurance, so no long NHS queues. I know have a full medical at my cost in Vietnam every three years, and more regular checks on my high blood pressure. It gives me piece of mind which in turn I think helps me be more positive with life. I garden and DIY about 4 hrs. each day, walk, ride a bike and climb three floors several times a day, next week I celebrate my 79th birthday though the p--s up will be Sunday. I'm with you. I think it's very sad. How much farm land isn't farmed anymore. So many of the small family farms have disappeared. Or turned into a livery yard, or some alternative business. Or even worse. Replaced with a housing estate. I can think of a farm as a particular example. When I was a kid they milked cows, grew crops and sold hay. Gradually they built up a fishing and camping enterprise. Complete with cafe and shop. It's now a multi million pound holiday camp. With a tiny token heard of beef cows as a nod to the past. I can understand why. And it really shows what is possible. I also have to admit. I was the digger driver who dug several of his lakes. But it makes me so sad to see what has happened and the direction things have gone. In the 44 years I've been on the planet. Because the whole community changes around it. It will never be quite the same again.
@mattfisher74328 ай бұрын
I know I rattle on sometimes. But to me this is important. When I look back at my childhood. There was 7 milking heards in a 3 mile radius of where I grew up. There are now none. And the bottling plant is now used to store diggers and lorries. I remember going to school in the mornings and always getting stuck behind the milk tanker on the hill into Barnsgreen. Our infant school was only round the corner from the farm I mentioned becoming a holiday park. In those days. We were regularly walked down to that farm to see afternoon milking and feed pheasant chicks. I don't think kids get any of that now. I used to be able to walk the dogs for miles. And never see or bother another soul. But these days the countryside is crawling with hoards of walkers everywhere all year round The pub hasn't got farm lads propping the bar anymore. It's tourists eating expensive food. They closed most of the local markets and slaughter houses. So even if its locally reared. Chances are it had a journey. Then you get some who have been paid vast amounts in grants to stop farming and rewild. Even though we have an expanding population that needs feeding. There used to be a cutting room where I could get birds table ready and packaged for £2 a bird. That's gone now. So I wouldn't be able to sell birds for meat now. So much has gone. I don't see it as progressive.

I understand completely I only have 3.64 acres, and I don’t want any one that does not belong there on it. I live in what we use to call country, but a lot of the old farmers have passed away or retired but their children only see $$$ a quick way to get rich by selling the land to builders. That builds neighborhoods on what was once a perfectly good farmland so sad 😢

Your land/farm is like your personal living room. You are the shepherd for the various living creatures in your space. You could not survive/live in a council estate without nature to comfort you. Although you own the land, your age and health dictate a lease/limit on the clock. Ultimately, God has his claim on all Earth/land; he is the freeholder, and you just rent meantime. The land and nature are good for your soul and well-being. There are many, many people who do not have that luxury. Nature is good to you and all can see, that you are good with nature. God bless.

Is not asking for help a thing farmers are known for? My neighbors ask me for help all the time. Our cow pastures are very far away from our house so a neighbor feeds our cows because he is closer. Every time I bring in a harvest I bring my cousins, my girlfriend, my friends and anyone else I know to help me. I think if anything we're MORE willing to ask for help than city people who are typically more standoffish and less friendly. That's just my personal experience though. I can't speak for anyone else.
