What a great way to teach geometry. Instead of sitting bored and confused in a classroom, take the students outside and give them a real world application like this. This is the way to take something out of the abstract and make it real. Great stuff!

The graphic overlays is a new feature for RRBuildings. I appreciate that you continue to introduce new stuff to your content for us. Secondly, I can only imagine how much of a strain that was to paint those lines the way you did. A wheeled Marking Wand is the ideal tool for that.

Double checking everything is actually the respectful thing to do, for the client's money. I've seen so many people argue (over the years) that if it's already marked or done (within other contexts) you're just wasting the client's money, time etc. NAH, that's bull dust. You are making sure the client doesn't have a headache later. Because whatever tick they have to turn over with you (in the event of a mistake, in the context of having worked off their points) that tick is even bigger when the client has to have it fixed. I've been there, in both shoes, and double checking is common sense and the right way.

As someone who's house ended up like 25 or 50 feet west of where I wanted it, yup... I gave the builder a sketch, but he didn't understand where the property line was. I wanted it laid out in relation to our property line (obviously). He measured it from the visible grass, which was my *neighbor's* property line. I don't know exactly where it was measured from, but I have an easement through there for a future driveway to the lot behind us as well as 10' utility easement on my property and 10' utility easement on the neighbor's property. At a minimum, the grass goes all the way through their easement, meaning he included one of the utility easements and the driveway easement that's not inside my property line. At worst, another 10' the wrong way for the other utility easement. Nothing we can do now, but it was frustrating and it puts the house kind of awkwardly close to the shared driveway.
@psidviciousКүн бұрын
@@isaaclarson I think major alarm bells would have been going off for me, if my contractor was determining property lines by “visible grass”, which could vary organically next month.

One thing i respect about Kyle. He has set himself up to be his own personal gold mine from being a decent Chippy, bit of good math. With a little bit of ambition. Fair play to the guy. His right about American homes. It’s cheap and efficient. It works. Different to UK builds, but I get why Americans build mud huts on steroids. I’m actually starting to like the way they build. Makes sense.

You know that when Saturday comes around, RR drop a new video. Always enjoyable and informative to watch. The overlay of the plan graphic is a great addition to the channel as it helps us understand more fully the process. It always impresses me how you use simple, but bullet proof math to calculate everything and that you take the time to double-check what you have done. So many contractors don’t and it makes for unnecessary complications down the line and worse maybe some compromises to the design the client wants. With you guys that isn’t ever a worry. Look forward to the next instalment. 😎

Have ya'll ever considered getting an older survey total station? Could really reduce layout time (still easy to double check measurements manually too). You could probably find a setup with tripod and a rod for like 1000 bucks and could layout a house like this to under an eighth in about an hour or 2. Could also use it for vertical measurements as well

You should always put the BM (bench mark) outside of the construction site like Top of Nail in the tree unless the tree is leaving, then establish a stake well marked with flagging and other identifiers that it is the Bench Mark for the project and it's elevation that way all parties may use it. I am a Civil Engineer.

You need yo learn to use Topcon Magnet Field. You've already got the Ln150. That's where the Topcon will really shine in your operation. Layout of corners, setbacks, pier center, bracket locations. All set up on layers, so you can view them one at a time. You can import your plans (DWG or PDF) and work off off known or control points and accurately layout your building on the site....sooooo much more efficient and accurate Buddy!

LOL... I think when you do this on existing concrete walls that you end up taking into account the wall thickness and such for the grade boards...but I'm not sure. I always was confused at some of your numbers you would call out.

For anyone this applies to you can use a VA loan for a barndo but call it a "new steel construction building" if you are going to be going with metal siding. For non metal siding call it a custom home on the applications. I am looking into doing this and for some reason the term barndominium makes people who have been in the industry a long time and don't keep up with times think that you are going to build a barn and live in horse stalls or something but you say new steel or custom home and they actually look at the plans then sign off on it. That is everything I have been reading the last two years for my plans at least so take it with a grain of salt. Love the overlaid footprint as well its very helpful in seeing layout
