I was always surprised Ray Whitney didn't thrive more with the Red Wings. He seemed like a perfect fit to me at the time.

I’m surprised they didn’t keep him longer term. With the aging core besides Datsyuk and Zetterberg, he could’ve fit in being only 32 then

@@tjreilly843they had to go from 72 million to 34 million in one offseason. Whitney was replaced by the much more cost effective options, Cleary, Franzen, filppula, Samuelson, and the like. He didn’t have a great season in 03, but I’m sure they would have tried again if there were no cap.

Adam Foote was such a piece of shit. That high stick with 1.6 seconds left was absolutely brutal.

I honestly don’t know how to feel. I don’t think Foote fully meant to do that cuz if you watch afterwards, it looks like he’s trying to help yzerman. I wouldn’t be surprised either way cuz as much as these guys hated eachother, no one hated yzerman. Or sakic for that matter.

yeah colorado loaded up in the offseason to get him and paul kariya. The wings got derian hatcher to counter. Unfortunately neither team made a deep run in the postseason

I thought cujo was silent for the Maple leafs but when he came to Detroit I wasn't fond of him especially after taking over for Hasek.. he look like a inline goalie playing ice hockey those seasons

I was 16 and 1/2 almost 17 at this time, this was when I was being a high school kid partying and all that and didn't watch hockey for a bit. It was alll about the Pistons at this point as they'd just had 2 great seasons in a row, and of course this was the year they won the title, but overall this was the 3rd really hyped year where Detroit basketball was a thing again! So seeing how they played, what happened after all the classic era guys still there in 02 started to leave, and all the hall of famers that left the wings... they were still great but the team doesn't hit the same. Colorado is no different. Selanne was absolutely horrible in Colorado, 32 points in 76 games, mind you this was 2004, the year where 41 goals led the league... Colorado may have been a favorite with this team in ANY other season with Forsberg Kariya Sakic and Selanne, AND Tanguay and Hejduk? 6 first line forwards... but they didn't have Roy or a lot of their toughness anymore. They were softer and that play style clearly didn't work in 2004.
