I took my car to the shop to have them look at this very noise. They said $640 for rack and pinion. Came home, searched and found this. Hot tailed it to my honda dealer for the part ($2), came home FIXED IT MYSELF, took all of 5 minutes. I have a 2004 and the small screw is in the front. It's very easy, and I'm a female. THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting.

Mike, Great job! It worked for me. I went to dealership and new pump would be $500. I said no way and found your video after some research. I called dealership and told them the o ring I wanted replaced with all the details. They came back at me with $200. I said no way! They replied..$150? I ordered the part and replaced it, which took shorter than your video. Today was the first cold morning to test it and low and behold, no noise. Part and shipping cost me $15. I wanted to say thanks for taking the time for doing this and if I could buy you a beer, I would. Happy Thanksgiving to all!!

You, sir, are a lifesaver! This is exactly what I needed! $10 for a cheap set of metric wrenches, $2 for the oring and about 10 minutes, and my power steering whine (which sounded JUST like your video) was gone - thanks!
@palmcouple11 жыл бұрын
Another success story Mike! Your instructions were perfect! Note: the noise didn't stop immediately after the o-ring replacement - driving a day and letting it sit a night allowed all the air bubbles to bleed out. The next morning it was cold out and no noise. Add up all the money you have saved people and I say you have THOUSANDS of $$$ in good karma coming your way!

I just came from the Honda Dealer, I was having this problem in my car. While I was in the waiting area waiting for them to service my car, I started surfing you-tube and found this video. I could not believe but my car was making the same sound, I walk to the service counter and ask for my keys and refuse to service. I went to the parts window and asked for the 0-ring of the power steering the number in the diagram reflects #23.Thank you so much.

2004 Honda Accord (6 cylinder). My auto mechanic skill set is a 3 out 10 (10 being great). I followed the video and had the job done in 15 minutes. I went to a Honda store for the o-ring (which was red in color). I also bought a new red cap for the fluid reservoir (total cost $2.25). I borrowed a metric (10) wrench from my neighbor .. Piece of cake... Thank you so much! Noise completely gone...

Took my car into the Honda dealership cause of the noise. They quoted me $700 to replace the power steering pump. Was about to agree, but decided to do a quick search on my iphone for "honda accord power steering noise". Came across your video. Followed your instructions and saved me $699! Thanks! And they kept trying to convince me that it wasn't an o-ring issue. Due to this, I decided to use the money saved to buy the tools necessary to do my own maintenance from now on.

I have the same problem on my 2004 Accord EX. I brought my vehicle in for the Power Steering Hose Recall. The dealer says I need a new power steering pump and a new drive belt. He said $433 for the power steering pump and $161 for a new drive belt. I told them to just note the recommendations and I would decide later. I can't believe even with a Service Bulletin, they recommended changing the entire Power Steering Pump. I have not fixed the issue yet, but glad I stumbled across your video.

Thanks for the video and diagnosis! Mine wasn't making any noises, but there was definitely a leak somewhere as the pump was barely working. After I replaced that o-ring it worked like new! It was easy to see that the old seal was dried out once I took it apart. This saved me from jumping straight to pulling the whole pump off and rebuilding it. Five minutes and $3 later, boom, done. I'm very grateful brochacho. - 2007 Accord

Thank you Michael for your help on this job. I ran into the same issue on a 2007 Odyssey. My only two recommendations would be to pull as much Power Steering fluid out of the reserve as possible before you start, and purchase a "stubby" 10 mm wrench from sears in order to get into the very tight spot Mike describes at about the 3 minute mark. The wrench will cost about $8 and the removal of the PW fluid will save you some mess.

Good Job. I have a 2005 Accord V6 that had the same symptoms: power steering pump noise (only in temps below about 25 deg F), frothy power steering fluid that would sometimes overflow. Bought the O-Ring for $0.75 at Honda dealer and replace the part in a few minutes. Noise is gone. The only catch for me was that I had to buy a 10mm wrench with a box end since I couldn't get the open-ended wrench to grab the bolt (the pulley is in the way). I ended up buying an offset wrench with a box end just to make sure I wouldn't need to make another trip.

Yes, this is true. I have a 2004 Honda accord ex 4cyl. It whined like crazy, all the time! I went to Honda purchased the o'rings for 2 bucks. Installed it in about 10 minutes. The only problem I had was at first it did not fix the problem, I was getting ready to purchase a new pump. Then I thought if the problem is caused by air then maybe air is still in the system. So I jacked up the front end, and started it up, then turned the steering back in forth all the way. This worked. I no longer have the noise. I also changed the serpentine belt because it had some cracks in it. Hope this helps. Thanks Mike.

The recal is for the power steering return line, not for this issue. Honda is telling people that the noise is a leak from the power steering pump ($249+labor) which, from the honda dealership, comes with this o-ring installed. Thank God for this video I only paid $0.89 for this o-ring and did it my self. No more noise!!

Michael, thank you for posting this video. This is the same problem I was having with my '05 Odyssey.

Thank you! Honda just told my wife it would be $500 to fix the leak. I'm hoping this is the issue.

+Kay Yu I'm trying this too....I had the recall hose fitted by the dealer, and the O ring is supposed to be fitted at the same time, as its in the kit, my trouble started after I'd taken it for the recall...I guess theyre not replacing them when they should...theyre now trying to sell me a $400 P/S pump....bet this is all it is

After having the recall done and it still had the noise, did you then change the o ring and that solve the problem? Thanks

I Performed this DIY on my 2004 Honda Civic, and it worked like a Champ! Same Orange O Ring, same part number. Fluid was bubbling and overflowing from the reservoir when I shut the engine off. Problem solved!
