03-08 Pontiac Vibe, Toyota Matrix/Corolla starter and radiator fan replacement

I watched 3 videos to do this job and this was my personal favorite. Removing fan shroud was a better way to go with this. Thanks! Appreciate all those that help us DIY-selfers with great videos to get the job done and helping us all save money. Thank you! Thanks for the video. A small suggestion for battery terminal removal - start by disconnecting the negative. If your wrench hits the battery hold down bar (or something else) while removing the positive, you can spark a short and potentially blow up the battery. Removing the neg first takes that danger away.

A note to fellow Vibe/Matrix owners to make sure that the signal wire has a good clean connection to the starter as that's usually the problem for a fail to start.....

Totally agree. A decade ago I replaced the starter in an old civic when the problem was a rotted-off ground cable at the body.

So the Vibe, Matrix and Corolla all share the same starter for that year range? That's super convenient because I need a new starter for my vibe and when I looked it up on some junkyard websites they matched it with the Corolla starter. I was skeptical at first because I want to make sure I don't waste any money.

Correct, most of the 03-08 vibe/matrix/corolla use the 1ZZ-FE engine, and they all use the same starter. The corolla/matrix XRS and Vibe GT models use the 2ZZ-GE engine, I’ve never worked on one those so I can’t confirm if they use the same starter or not. This was probably the easiest starter job I’ve ever done. The worst - Chevy Aveo with the Etec 2 engine.

How do you figure out which post is your positive and negative on starter 03 pontiac vibe

Positive is the wire under the rubber boot, the removal of that starts at 4:45 in the video.

As a rule, red is the positive and black is the negative
