Thanks for watching guys!!!
Almost 500 subscribers!!! Much love!!
We’ve got some more goodies for the 03’ truck of course!!
This is definitely an easy install, but without some simple knowledge explained in this video you could run into some headaches.
Thanks for all the support!!!!

Bleeding power steering:
-Block off return at bottom of reservoir tank.
- use some scrap hose to extend return line into bucket / catch pan. ( I used 3/8 fuel line )
- top off reservoir with new fluid (atf +4)
- turn truck on, only let run for 2 to 3 second intervals and check fluid flowing into bucket until it seems like all new fluid flowing out. ( You should run 1 to 2 quarts through the system for proper flush!)
- reinstall return line to bottom of reservoir!!
- clean up your mess!!!!!!😂

I upgraded my power steering pump on my 03 Ram 3500 but when getting the new pump and pulley the first thought was about the pulley alignment so I laid it right next to my old power steering pump on the workbench and press the pulley down on my new pump until it was exactly even with the pulley on my old pump sitting right next to it and it lined up perfectly when I put it on the truck.

I was thinking the same thing when he was putting the pully on. I have a new pump only. Was thinkning I would use my old tank & pully. But haven't even started yet. I can't be left without my truck. So now I'm searching for a pully. The website I bought the pump from doesn't sell either parts. Just the pump. Use to be a guy can order rebuld kits & fix anything~! I haven't determined whether or not my old tank fits.

I have a 2008 dodge 2500 and I can't find any videos on when you connect the high pressure line. When I disconnected line spring and spool valve came out. And a small pin. I understand spring and spool valve but can't wrap my head around tiny pin that came out. Very confused. Haha

I have a 99 dodge 2500 gas truck as a parts truck. Been thinking about putting the tank and delivery system on my 6.7 with heaters to run veg oil. Then I read something saying you can't do it on a 6.7

The old pump pulley had a nut in the center to hold the pulley on. The new style pump does not have a center bolt in the kit to hold the pulley on after pressed on install. Is that necessary and missing the nut or is that just the way the new pump and pulley is?

That’s my concern also. The old style you have to press on and off but have the additional bolt. My PS just started leaking at the tank to pump interface (likely bad o-ring) at 277K, so I’ll be spending 71$ at oreillys and borrowing their free puller/install tool for the old style, with lifetime warranty

That's not upgrading though
@Natedoc808
@Natedoc808 2 жыл бұрын
@@maddawgnoll mine has lasted 277K before starting to leak at the tank/pump interface- so doesn’t sound like it needs an “upgrade”. Best thing you can do for your steering is get a steering shaft support bracket; mine from rough country cleaned up all the steering sponge and wander caused by steering box bracket flexing.

@@Natedoc808 borgeson six bolt box, borgeson steering shaft, carli stabilizer, carli adjustable track bar, upgraded T style steering, dynatrac ball joints, fox 2.0, sway bar bar links, Cardone pump. Maybe you got lucky, but I had to change it all. I'm glad I did. The fear box failure due to the crap parts mopar used (mainly steering linkage) caused my second and third box to fail within 3 years. Which in turn caused damage to the pump. Maybe i didn't need to "upgrade" but why the hell not. I'm under the hood, under the truck. Do it all and it's new at 220k miles. I won't be worrying about that for a long time now. Drives better than it ever has The video is about upgrading the pump, not just replacement. So the OP didn't do anything except show ignorance by making a smart ass remark.
@Natedoc808
@Natedoc808 2 жыл бұрын
@@maddawgnoll video just says pump install, so the “upgrade is a must” being thrown around seems misplaced. What is the deficiency in the stock pump? Sounds like you’ve been through it with your front end. My 03 being our 3rd cummins (others are a 95 and a 99) and those other components you’ve replaced were all fine on our trucks, just the usual wear parts of ball joints and rod ends, steering stabilizer (shock). The steering box support has been a god send for our trucks and our 95 got some mean death wobble at one point. Aftermarket doesn’t always mean “better”
@maddawgnoll
@maddawgnoll 2 жыл бұрын
@@Natedoc808 I think he mentions upgrading in the video, not the title. I'm in a power wagon so the box brace is pointless. Already have the front of the frame tied together with the huge mount for the winch so that's not the issue. T style steering is way better than the Y style. I'm not saying the pump is a bad pump. I more or less was pointing out the fact that a $79 pump from autozone or whoever isn't an upgrade. This is the second time I've replaced the steering linkage in less that 70k. Death wobble is, was I should say, a problem for me for 6 years. Replacing a part here and there chasing the problem, only wore out the new parts faster. I got fed up with shotgunning parts at the front end and said f*** it. Replace it all and eliminate the problem. Ended up with two fried ball joints, cracked and falling bushings. The tie rod and drag link was toasted. I love my dodge and mopar. The gen3 just has front end parts that fail too soon. My 94 Cummins doesn't have any issues other than what normal wear and tear would cause. When it's time though, I'm upgrading that to. The steering box has especially made this truck a pleasure to drive again. Dynatrac ball joints are rebuildable on the truck for a fraction of the price. I find they are worth the extra cost if nothing else, peace of mind. I do the work myself, and yes all this was done by me. Whoever owned my truck before me really messed up some things. The ball joints must've been replaced before me. These were not stock and literally fell apart once removed. I bought it with 115k on it so there was obvious problems early on, before me. Not every truck will have issues, but it seems more common than it should be. No offense to you whatsoever, but when someone compares a parts store pump to a Cardone pump. Well there isn't really any comparison. If you get 200k out of the blue light special, you're gonna get double that out of Cardone. That's why they cost and that's why we put them in. Isn't necessary, but it's available. I'll take advantage of the time and put in something that I know is better, regardless if it's more costly. This is also my third dodge I've owned, and I've never had issues with the front end before this one. My Cummins only had 120k on it and she's old now haha things will start to fail because of age alone. The motor is where it's at and she's very clean and strong

Just replaced my PS pump on my 2005 5.9, used Napa 381402N, looks similar to this pump. But now the steering is almost impossible to turn when the truck is stationary. It did not do this before. Any Ideas? PS I thought the pump was bad so I took it back and replaced it with another one. Still no good.

The ZF vs snap ring thing is kinda pointless in my experience, I bent the old pulley on my snap ring pump, I was trying to swap the pumps like for like, any how apparently the ZF pump has a shaft diameter of .663, the snap ring has a shaft diameter of .630, if you need a .630 pulley you're out of luck, I couldn't find one anywhere, dodge won't sell them, none of the parts stores had it and all the ones I could find were seven rib, so now I have no choice but to return the snap ring pump and switch to the ZF pump
