Keyboardist Lyle Mays is playing a grand piano fitted with MIDI here, allowing him to trigger other MIDI-capable instruments with the same notes he‘s playing on the piano. Using a volume pedal, he can fade-in the organ sound, which is coming from one of his MIDI sound sources (e.g., a keyboard or rack synth), as he sees fit.
