I remember one night my mother had some friends over, us kids were to be in bed, but when one guy started playing that piano I was up and sitting in the hall way, he was playing boogie music, and Oh my the house was jumping. I love anything with piano. Just wish I could play I took lessons, but couldn't read the left hand. So I am stuck with playing right hand. But in watching you play, I see the left hand doesn't do much, that it is the right hand that has all the work. May God just bless your socks off on your birthday....THANKS AGAIN for the great music...KEEP PLAYING.

I am in love....finally found someone who plays the boogie. My dad, like you, started out w/classical and then put together his own band in Western NY towns of Jamestown/Falconer area where he played in speakeasies and for dances playing the songs and styles of the Big Band era....you know those great love songs with "real" lyrics (he would say). His boogie was tops and Fats Waller was one of his idols...He bought an upright player and converted it for his personal playing. Blues, Boogie & jazz.

Wow, memories! We lived with my grandparents when I was little, and my dad was stationed overseas. They had an upright piano, and my mother's brother, Robert, would bang out the boogie-woogie on it, while my younger siblings and I would "dance" like maniacs. Robert is near 80 now, I haven't seen him in 40 years. He married a Japanese woman and was a professor in Japan, where he still lives. Wonder if he has a piano, and still plays boogie-woogie. I have been researching 1940's tunes for an upcoming jazz trio gig and Huckle-buck was a top hit of 1949. I came across Chubby Checker singing the tune, and this is a fun solo piano version. Charlie Parker wrote a blues head called, "Now's the Time" which is similar to the second theme of this tune. This is one driving boogie version!

If I were your left hand, I would have revolted long before 6:00. It's not fair to work hard and steady like a slave, while the master (right hand) is having the time of his life, singing and dancing all around. Fantastic, bravo.
@crankbv17 жыл бұрын
kabouktli. Believe it or not..That left hand is probably one of the easiest boogie techniques you could choose to adopt.. It must be, because due to my now advanced years it's one I tend to use increasingly nowadays. Unlike some patterns,it is very easy on the wrist tendons, at least at the tempo demonstrated here, so you can just let it roll along almost indefinitely. Incidentally, I like your choice of metaphor there, it made me smile.
