Great info!! I used your vid as a start. Yellow wire starter, RED is constant +12volt. Got a project starter switch @advanced +/-$10 & wired in. Flip the cover & it's automatically back in OPEN circuit. E-z & cheap on a 15yro Jeep! 👍🏽👍🏽

My jeep is starting to do the same exact thing. At first, I thought it was a battery problem. It still might be but I did notice when I forced the key a little further it was turn over and start. Thanks for the info. You showed me another possible condition it could be.
@JDAlwaysWorkin6 жыл бұрын
Mike Hillis Yes, if it locks up right before the starter, it is most likely the actuator pin part I pointed to on the lower left side under the column. The doorbell solution has been running strong since the day I repaired it.. We opted to just leave it "mcgiever'd" because the cost of part outweighed the necessity. Good luck. Read the other comments for F.A.Q's you might have. Thanks for watching.

hello. I'm sorry, I can't see the diagram and I don't understand which wires you connected the doorbell to, the link doesn't work anymore
@JDAlwaysWorkin Жыл бұрын
you would have to find a wiring diagram for the ignition. i pulled power from the second accessory power wire to supply the starter wire, bypassing the actuator. sorry I can't be more help

This is awesome but I need to ask a stupid yet important question. So when you say you "jumped between" those wires what does that mean as far as what connects to where? One end of the doorbell connects to the starter and the other end connects into the accessory or how's it work?
@JDAlwaysWorkin4 жыл бұрын
Yeahp. One side of the doorbell connected to the starter 12v and then the other side of the doorbell connected to the 12v second accessory power. When the key in place and ignition is turned forward. The doorbell will bypass the rest of the ignition. Backwoods fix. But it works🤙

Hi! So my instrument cluster keeps flickering when I connect the wires and turn the switch on but the car won’t start.. Any help would be appreciated. I can’t seem to figure it out. I’m currently using speaker wires? Could that be the issue?
@JDAlwaysWorkin3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a more extensive electrical issue to me. I used 12v low voltage or "doorbell" wire. Goodluck

Sorry for the noob question but, what was the process for jumping the two cables together? Thanks in advance.
@JDAlwaysWorkin8 жыл бұрын
Parnn8819: I disconnected the battery as a precaution, remove the key from the ignition.. then used a razor knife to carefully strip about an inch of the the insulation coating on both wires(being extra careful not to cut the wire, it is not a solid wire it is a strand of a bunch of small wires). then I took my 2 pieces of low voltage wire (rated for 12volts) and stripped a good inch and a half to two inches at the end and very tightly wrapped each around the bare wire exposed in the wire harness (the second accessory wire, and starter wire) and then applied a good amount of electrical tape tightly wrapped to prevent any shorts or moisture from getting at the wires. Note: not all years are the same color in the harness, be sure you know which wires are which. it was especially tricky when I followed the wires from the ignition switch over to the other side of the steering column where u seen my splice. be sure that there are not two of the same color wire and you dont mix them up. also. there probably will be factory tape holding all the wires tightly together, you'll need to remove that tape and tape them back tightly after.. I used zip ties when I was done. Goodluck

Thanks for the reply! I am still a bit fuzzy on the details. is it one of the following? 1. [Starter Wire]---------Wire 1-------->[Switch] and [2nd Acc. Wire]---------Wire 2-------->[Switch] 2. [Starter Wire AND 2nd Acc. Wire]-----Wire 1 & 2-------->[Switch] Kind of all bundled together? Thanks again for the info. I really appreciate it.
@JDAlwaysWorkin8 жыл бұрын
Parnn8819 your number 1 is correct. i used a garage door button/ same as a door bell or any simple button switch. but the starter wire connects to the switch and the 2nd accessory wire connects to the switch so when you hold down the button it basically bridges the 2nd accesory power or 12volt supply to the starter wire.. which energizes the starter circuit. making the car start. no problem bro.. are you having the same problem I had where the key wont turn all the way? because the key has to turn on to allow the 2nd accessory power wire to energize.
@Parnn88198 жыл бұрын
Awesome. Thanks for the info. Sort of. Mine still cranks and will turn on but it is very difficult. Otherwise it works though.
