My only recollections of sailing vessels on the Hudson were from the pen of Walt Whitman just about the time of Southern Succession when he would journey to his own families home while editor of the newspaper's that he worked for in New York City. He often was known to comment of the pleasant travels on a river that often was the hubris of New York's ties to trade and sole connection to life long in the past. Ever since reading his "Starting from Paumanok", where he states to be borne, I am reminded of his then Manhattan Home passing far into the distance, as he passed the banks of the Hudson, headed to his ancestral home. Have a great day. Will look forward to more of your content in the future.

@@OlhaBatchvarov there is little that I could care for more than the old wooden boats and ships that littered the waterway's and high sea's just a couple of centuries ago. The book you reviewed were some of finest of American design in the day, and some of the last ever built. It was only the Elite Yachting Class that kept these vessels in our view, with the Cup Races at the turn of the 20th Century. Only after the end of Second World Wars, with all it's mechanization did the last of the fast sailing vessels start to fall from our sight. The Automobile became what was once the sole domain of getting away from life's cares, with only the luxury liners to carry on. It is a joy that scholarship hasn't totally forgotten the greatest achievements of mankind's sailing past, as is evident from published works as this. Warmest regards.
