SOUTH PENNINES WALK FEATURING HEBDEN BRIDGE AND HEPTONSTALL
"High Time in Hebden Bridge"
Filmed 4th May 2015
Post-production completed 17th May 2015
Hebden Bridge was one of those places I knew absolutely nothing about apart from perhaps seeing the name on maps and signposts. However, my interest increases as I begin to find out more about the town. During today’s walk I explain what helped me decide to finally discover Hebden Bridge for myself…..
Filmed in the South Pennines in the county of West Yorkshire. Locations include Hebden Bridge, the Rochdale Canal and Heptonstall.
Written, researched, directed, camera and sound, edited and music by Patrick Leach.
Any other names credited in this film, i.e. Bob Morgan and Martin Roy, are pseudonyms, which I used at the time of making this film. However, I no longer use these pseudonyms as I want viewers to be clear that my films are completely my own work.
Click here for a map showing the route of the walk: osmaps.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/r...
DISCLAIMER: Although I work hard to ensure all information is correct to the best of my knowledge, I am only featuring information I have found online during my research when putting this film together, so I cannot guarantee that there are no mistakes or errors.
As with all the films I make, this is a mini-movie of my personal journey along the walk, in which I might share some of my own personal stories, and not actually intended to be a guide to the area.
If you are new to my channel, I strongly recommend reading the description under the “about” tab, which will provide a clearer understanding of what to expect in my films: / solitaryrambler
There is also a short “Introduction to the Solitary Rambler” video, which briefly explains what my films are all about: / solitaryrambler
Many thanks and I hope you enjoy watching!

Hebden Bridge in the 1960s was like a ghost town from what I remember,I was only a young girl then.

@@captainpeacock4442 One of its claims to fame was as a hotspot for asbestos related disease. The stuff was worked at Acre Mill by Cape between 1939 and about 1970 and people were still suffering from it for decades afterwards. A nice place now, but with a sad past. The documentary The Dust at Acre Mill is on KZbin. On a happier note, listen the the episode of the BBC radio show Mark Steel’s in Town about the quirky side of the place. Must try to get up there again this year; haven’t been since before the pandemic.

Nice to visit this film again Patrick , we watched last year before spending a bit of time there , l ast summer we spent a couple days there , it really is a lovely place ,and like the film we found it to be a very busy plce too , especially near to the white swan , close to the bridge , for us though the highlight was a trip up to heptonstall mate , visiting the museum , which as you may know was based inside the old school , there are so many momento,s from the towns past in there , i found the churchs just wonderous to walk around and photograph ... its such a peaceful place too ..we went up there on a sunday ,and i think we only saw five or six people in all the time we were there ...We had lunch at the small cafe , opposite the post office and very nice it was too ....Thank you so much again Patrick for reminding us just what a lovely part of the country this is .....Regards Frank And Lee .....

Hadn't realised you'd watched this before so thanks for re-watching! Another great place. It was quiet when I arrived but by the end of that day is was busy, especially by the White Swan and bridge like you mention. I thought Heptonstall was amazing, lovely little village on the hilltop. I'd like to go back sometime and spend more time there. Thanks again Frank and Lee. Cheers, Patrick :-)

We love hebden Bridge, we are keen walkers have been visiting sometimes having holidays there also Heptonstall and old town staying at the hare and hounds pub b&b which was mention in the video. You don't have to be a walker / hiker to visit we would often take my late mum and mother in law they too loved the area. Who wouldn't the fresh clean air is just amazing we now take our Grandchildren on visits they love the park and enjoy feeding the ducks on the river. Cheers

Brilliant video Patrick. I walk from Rochdale to Hebden Bridge once, sometimes twice a week and know every blade of grass along the canal towpath. So good to see the countryside in your video along the Calder valley. Heptonstall and Hardcastle Crags are also wonderful places to visit and walk through. Cheers.

Hi Patrick, I hope you're well. On Monday I had to leave Wales for a couple of days for a meeting with the publishers (fotoVUE) of my soon to be released book 'Photographing the Snowdonia Mountains'. They're based in Hebden Bridge so that's where I went, staying in a house just below Badger Lane near Blackshaw Head with tremendous views across the valley to Stoodley Pike! I had the opportunity for a couple of walks while I was there and moorland scenery is stunning. I was really struck by how beautiful the town is and how the atmosphere of the place is one of creativity and simple but good living. It occured to me this evening that perhaps "Patrick has been there" and you have! Thanks for taking me back to such a wonderful place.

Morning Nick, yes indeed I visited the lovely Hebden Bridge three years ago so nice that you enjoyed your stay in the area. Glad you did some walks there, as you say the scenery is stunning. I must have walked pretty close to where you were staying then! One day I'd like to walk up to Stoodley Pike itself, so that's on my to-do list. Thanks as always for watching. Cheers, Patrick :)

Lovely video! I love Hebden Bridge in all its quirkiness. Had the pleasure of playing at a couple open mics there, too. I love the alternative shops and the unique cafes. Heptonstall is wonderful, too, and I remember the graveyard being one of the most evocative places I'd ever been, especially on the grey and misty day I'd visited.

Really enjoyed learning so much from this video Patrick. I had too had only visited once, while walking the PW. It was atrocious weather slogging down from Stoodley Pike into town and up again to Heptonstall. Now I have a much better understanding of what I actually saw and understand the history of the area. I have to agree with you, Britain has such amazing places to explore. It's great that you can make your own soundtrack as it really sets the mood for the walk. Thanks for sharing.

What a charming place, Heptonstall too. Definitely putting those on my list of places to visit. You make an excellent point about foreign holidays; a lot of peoples idea of a holiday is a hotel in Spain where they sit around a pool for a week or a fortnight and see nothing. They are truly missing out and if it wasn't for the fact that our weather lets us down so much I would never go abroad as there is such a huge amount to see in the UK and boy are we blessed as this video clearly emphasises. Thanks Patrick I thoroughly enjoyed it. What a treat it was.
