The Tissington Trail is another trail in the Peak District that follows the route of a former railway line, in this case the Ashbourne Line. As I explore sections of the trail I visit some of the prettiest villages on the way…..
Filmed in the Peak District in the county of Derbyshire. Locations include Ashbourne, Tissington, Alsop-en-le-Dale and Biggin.
Written, researched, directed, camera and sound, edited and music by Patrick Leach.
Any other names credited in this film, i.e. Bob Morgan and Martin Roy, are pseudonyms, which I used at the time of making this film. However, I no longer use these pseudonyms as I want viewers to be clear that my films are completely my own work.

Some lovely Derbyshire limestone area villages on this video, Patrick. I've always liked the small town of Ashbourne, it's got some real charm to it. When I first started my career on the railway at Buxton, there used to be some drivers and fireman still at the depot that used to work goods trains to Ashbourne in the latter years of the line's life, and said it was a great experience going along that scenic route. Alsop-En-Le-Dale, Tissington and Hartington serving those lovely villages were calling points amongst others to do some shunting, they said. Now the Waterloo pub at Biggin what you were about to call in, I've never heard mentioned for ages, and I'd forgotten about it. A lovely little farming village. I'd almost forgotten I made this film featuring these villages as this is another fairly old one now 😀 I'm sure that was a lovely railway when it was open serving these places. Nice that people can walk and cycle along it today. Not been in the Waterloo pub for a long time now, although went next door earlier this year for afternoon tea at Biggin Hall. Patrick. I have so many memories of Biggin. I had a caravan there on seasonal pitch up Drury lane past village Hall for 12yrs.up till 3 yrs ago when my wife died. Cycled along the trail absolutely scores of times & all of surrounding area. I now have a Campervan as I didn't enjoy it any more. But go back many times & have some cheesy chips in the Waterloo. Village of Tissington I love & often cycled there & had cuppa at the lovely cafe there. We always went into Ashbourne on every visit. Wife always had to into every charity shop. Think there's 5. Enjoy your videos

Tissington seems to have found a fond place in your heart Patrick (or should I say Bob?) as you were smiling throughout this film. Nice one Patrick. I am slowly working my way through your Catalogue. As a Biggin lad born and bread thought I had better check this one out. Bought a tear to my eye as the church yard scene with the flowers was my dad's grave with new flowers on. Even though I now live in Parsley Hay I still class myself as Biggin. Excellent vlog as usual 👌

Thanks Gavin, I can't actually believe it was 9 years ago I shot this! Biggin is a lovely village. We've been visiting Biggin Hall quite a few times lately as the food there is excellent. It's not posh or expensive as people might think, but it's become our favourite eating establishment. We will be going again hopefully in a month's time or so. All the best 👍

What a lovely pub to end your walk on,I knew very little of the trail and have never been to Tissington so it was great to see it,and the lovely things along the way,I loved the signalbox you could go into,I'v just done 32 years as a Paramedic for the NHS but before that,from when I was 18,I qualified as a signalman for British Rail and had my own box just like that,and haven't been in one since,if they hadn't closed the line and box perhaps I would still be there,I may do the trail just to call in there. Loving these walks Patrick,really appreciate all the work you put into them,thankyou. Pete.

Tissington is a very touristy village, but really beautiful so well worth a visit. Just avoid weekends and Bank Holidays! :) Yes you can indeed go inside the old signal box at Hartington Station, you'd love it if you make a visit there. Watched this before our visit to the Peak District last week and am watching again now recognising so many things that we saw. We hired electric bikes in Ashbourne and went to Parsley Hay and back

Visited the complete trail in 1997 from Ashbourne to Parsley Hay.. The tunnel at Ashbourne was not accessible at that time.
