04 Dodge Dakota Injector replacement

This is a quick walk-through of how to replace an injector on a 2004 Dodge Dakota with a 3.7 liter motor (V6). It's easier than I thought with minimal tools. It took about an hour and a half from start to finish.
Quick List of things to do
1. Remove air cleaner assembly and move coolant lines to heater core out of the way
2. Remove coil packs
3. Separate fuel rail from injectors
4. Pull out injector and replace
5. Put it all back together
Tools you will need:
Small Flathead screwdriver
10mm and 8mm socket and ratchet
Injector from Amazon

cylinders 3 and 6 misfires. it solved the cylinder 3 but not 6. im thinking theres a stuck valve in 6

Same thing went bad on my 2004 Dodge Dakota. It’s always the number one injector that goes bad. Not sure why it’s that one with all of them. Sounds like a factory design mistake. Good instructional video, great work.

Going to do this Sunday. Changed out all the coil packs already didn’t act up for a while now it’s started again this might be the issue. What kind of lube is used for the o rings on the new injectors? Read comment about that.

Thank you. Have an 07 that kicked a couple cylinder 5 codes today. Changed the spark plug, which cleared some of them, but it still has a P0205 for an injector open circuit. Looks pretty straight forward. Read somewhere that you have to bleed the pressure off the fuel rail, did you do that, or did you just pull the rail?

I did not bleed it. seemed to do just fine like that for me.

I did not think of this, and when I pulled the fuel rail loose, it spilled fuel. Fortunately none went into the coil pack/spark plug holes. But it went just about everywhere else.

I don't know I know. 04 Durango and newer is the body style change. I don't know if that changes anything with the fuel rail or injector

No, It was a misfire code

Hey when i took the fuel rail off was there supposed to be gas pouring out. Not sure on this one.

Yea there is gas in the rail, so whatever the capacity of the rail is will come out

Its a good possibility. You're on the new body style and I have not looked that closely at one in a while so I can't say how closely your removal will be. Good luck!

Abel Cerrillo it had a bad miss. Changed sparkplugs, ran lukeoil injector cleaner thru it, nothing helped. Hooked it up to a computer and said I had a missfire

If the little red clip breaks on the injector harness like you said it’s easy to, does that harness connector need to be replaced ?

No. the one I show that is broken i just put it back in with just the one tab broken off. It hasnt been a problem yet.

Thomas Whetzell There is no certain way the o-ring should go on. just make sure it is seated in the O-ring grove. that is the most critical thing to pay attention to for the o-ring.

all i can say is be gentle. you should be ok. i was kinda rough with my rail pulling it off and I had no problems.

Tyrone Walker from walking the U-Pull it yard, if my memory serves me right, the injectors are roughly in the same general area but it is a different fuel rail and injector. Pretty much the same idea for removal though

Thanks! Yes lube the o-rings. I didnt do it to one of the orings and it ended up rolling in the seat. Plus you dont want nics/tears. Good tip!

I also have an 04 dakota 3.7 v6. is there any power increase from putting on new fuel injectors and is there a certain kind of injector I should get that will get me a bit more power?

MrDippledork if your injectors are not bad i would just run an injector cleaner in your gas. I use Lucas, works good. its not worth the cost to replace your injectors for a tiny boost if they dont need replaced. i just used stock replacement injectors but im sure youll get better performance from aftermarket ones. I would check NAPA.

if you want more power, increase the amount of gas going in.. look for an injector with a higher flow rate. also 2005+ vehicles got Bosch new EV14 design some them come with 12 hole nozzles, this is why newer cars are so smooth because the fuel dropplet comes out 3 times smaller with the 12 hole instaed of the 4 hole nozzle.. -Bryan

You didn't remove the main fuel line why?

If your talking about the fuel rail its not necessary You can pull the fuel rail off the injectors and you still have enough room to work with it still intact.
