@Evil Mofo because most cops are Male, and respond by emotion, and natural male mentality especially in their 20s. An officer has to learn that there are 2 laws, Natural law, and written law. When a officer responds with emotional attachments woman often get away with much more than men. I got out of a ticket last month because the female officer said I could take her to Jail....yes, true story, and she was with another male officer. It was terrific. As a retired professional driver, seeing these accident scenes are just as devastating as they are in person. Being on the road for so many years, you learn to shut a part of your humanity off because there’s never a notice when you could be the only one around that can help. Looking back on some of the things I’ve witnessed, if it wasn’t for the hidden part of my humanity that I stored away, I probably wouldn’t be able to have a simple conversation. Those people above, in all those different uniforms. They’re the real undisputed heroes, and anytime you try to thank someone in one of those uniforms you’ll get the same answer form each and every one of them. “No need to apologize, just doing my job.”

I constantly pound defensive driving into my wife and myself. You cannot control what the other driver is doing, you can only react. Fractions of seconds count when there is a vehicle coming at your vehicle. Try to read approaching vehicles 'body language. Are they steady? Is the vehicle swerving or drifting? Sometimes there is not time to react, but more often than not, you'll pick up defensive clues if you will pay attention. God rest the souls of those who perished, and may he comfort the children left behind.
@fredc83464 жыл бұрын
Absolutely a person has to drive defensively all of the time. And I really think we are doing little to attempt to get dangerous drivers off the road. I bet you will find other infractions, especially speeding if not worse with a lot of these drivers prior to something like this. Go after actual predictors and of course leave the imagining crimes out of the equation. And on the defensive driving personally I get real tired of having to dong the driving for so many others. Everyone needs to drive properly.
@adelinenicholas9223 жыл бұрын
Whenever I would leave in my car my dear mother would say "hold it in the road" and "drive like everybody else is an idiot" Good advice Mom.
@jrnfw40602 ай бұрын
It's not always possible to get out of the way. If there is a large space in which to pull off the road and avoid a collision, great. But sufficiently roomy pull-offs aren't always present, and sometimes there's no place to go. And if there's a steep drop-off or cliff on your side, and you go over and roll, it can still kill you, but maybe your chances of surviving are much better than they would be in a head-on collision or a broadside impact. Sometimes, there just aren't any good choices. You may have a large wall or embankment on your side, and your only option is to crash into it instead of the car coming at you, and surviving becomes the luck of the draw. Driving is dangerous, more so these days with all the fools who are welded to their phones or brain fried on drugs or booze. Then, there are the impatient, rude boors who think of no one but themselves in an all-fired big hurry. LEAVE HOME EARLY ENOUGH THAT YOU DON'T NEED TO SPEED TO GET TO YOUR APPOINTMENT ON TIME! It's amazing how some folks wait to the very last minute, then have to race to make their destination on time. COMMON SENSE ISN'T COMMON, sad to say.

I was in a head on about 1 1/2 years ago. Had the truck I always wanted, a little Ford Ranger, stepside. Only got keep it 4 months. This car had a cop following him for having stolen plates. When they reached the edge of the cops jurisdiction, the cop pulled over and sat there and watched as they crossed over 4 lanes of traffic and hit my truck at 45 degree angle. To sit and watch as that car comes toward you, and there is nothing you can do to get out of his way, the scariest feeling in the world. From the moment I saw him until the moment of impact seemed like an eternity, but actually only took seconds. I did not even hear the sirens, I knew nothing until they broke out the smelling salts. If they still use those.

I had an accident a long time ago. I was stopped at a red stop light but a car coming over didn't have good tires and there was ice and snow so he went through the light. I'm sorry for you loss and I know Christmas can bring up powerful grief for those of us left behind. I should tell you that in 2006 Hamilton Ontario my cousin and her husband were in a fiery crash after a BMW with a DUI hit them at 2 AM. I had no piece or faith as I'm an atheist and I could not sleep or function. My Government boss Brenda insisted I get therapy of a sort to sleep as I was a mess and worried about suffering. I was sent to use a Medium the Police here use at times for unsolved cases. Dorthy changed my life and described what they were wearing at the time of the accident ,how the motor had broken motor mounts that only I knew of,and they were happy and at peace. They apparently review life events and have a school there and are around other deceased relative,friends and pets they loved. They want us to be happy as our pain is theirs and they watch over us and help us in life. YOU can speak to them while you are alone or go for a walk and my dad from 2002 cancer even leaves us dimes all over the place or to confirm things we ask and it may be nickles or quarters for some a book was written about that GOOGLE. Anyway what I have learned is that pain and grief comes from the end of that relationship ....but....you can still have a relationship they have just transformed. They have so much LOVE and energy so talk and tell them what hurts or what you need or a joke......they need that from you till you see them again on the other side.

I understand the reporter was doing her job. But she was so cold with her canned questions. All she wanted was the most dramatic answers she could get to make a story. The officer just saw some things most of us never will or could walk away from without lifelong scars. How about asking him how HE'S doing!?

With multiple victims, how do the first responders determine which patient they help first? I couldn't do it! #Heroes
@hummingbird92216 жыл бұрын
As a retired RN I've worked several accidents on the highway. When I had to choose...the kids came first. You have to be aware of what limited resources you have outside a hospital setting. Try to be sure everyone has an open airway then take care of the worse bleeders. It sounds callous, I know.
@watchgoose5 жыл бұрын
It's called "triage" - a quick assessment of all tells you which ones are first priority, and so on.
@irenab.14465 жыл бұрын
We use ABC. Airway, Breathing, Circulation as the primary form of triage. For example...the Patient with Respiratory Distress would go before the bleeding patient...
@grahammaguire4044 жыл бұрын
Lisa Desso hi the responders always treat the patients who are very quiet possibly not speaking or making any complaints about pain and virtually motionless....this indicates severe trauma hence no crying , screaming out or shouting as their levels of consciousness are very low and have no strength to communicate.....where as a patient who ( with deep respect to themselves) are able to communicate and describe their injuries indicates high levels of consciousness,but every road traffic/ highway incident are never the same and treated appropriately according to immediate evaluation!!!!,I'm in the UK and I'm certain throughout the world this is standard protocol according to the accident scene!!!!

That's why cops should be mature and have a good mind.... Not like some of the ones we have that can't handle the job....you know the ones that either got their lunch money stolen other ones at the home and beat their wives don't forget the ones on roids. Then we have maybe 20% good cops.

Imagine what an officer rolling up on a multiple casualty vehicle crash has to deal with on scene. Then imagine that officer, after rendering aid and helping clear the scene, Then has to continue with the day's shift, serving warrants, dealing with domestic calls, shoplifting, disorderly conduct, armed robbery, whatnot. When you have some dealings with an officer, Try to remember and think about what kind of mess that officer just came from.

There should be (at least) SOME training for these so-called "reporters", before the get a microphone shoved in their hand, and placed in front of a camera, so that they don't ask SUCH insensitive, intrusive questions. THIS may be the first time the next of kin, best friends, etc. learn about this horrific tragedy!! At least BE COOL. There should be more to reporting a story than just reciting the facts !! AND, how about some empathy !! Or, some sadness, some understanding. Geezus!! 4 humans DIED here !! Some of them were burned beyond recognition, for Chrissakes. "....Ms.Smith, Mr. Jones, I'm REALLY sorry for your loss. I DO understand - Really. Try to remember him/her/them as they were. You won't see them today, or even tomorrow, but you WILL see him/her/them again. Peace. (something like that always worked for me - hundreds of times)

john stewart yes there is training, it is up to individuals on how good they are at their job...bet you know someone (or yourself) at your workplace that when they first started you wondered how they ever earned the paper that says they can do this work. Unless you’re a broom pusher, then skills training is on-the-job.
