WHITBY TOUR FEATURING THE EAST AND WEST PIERS, WHITBY ABBEY AND ROBIN HOOD’S BAY
"White Settlement of Whitby”
Filmed 10th September 2015
Post-production completed 13th December 2015
I visit the beautiful Whitby on the east coast of North Yorkshire. I explore the lovely town, dine in some of its famous fish and chip cafés, and visit the Abbey with its connection to Bram Stoker. I also take a short trip to nearby Robin Hood’s Bay, a venue where I once enjoyed a very pleasant stag weekend with friends…..
Filmed in Whitby in the county of North Yorkshire including part of the North York Moors. Locations include West and East Cliffs, the Abbey and Robin Hood’s Bay.
Written, researched, directed, camera and sound, edited and music by Patrick Leach.
Any other names credited in this film, i.e. Bob Morgan and Martin Roy, are pseudonyms, which I used at the time of making this film. However, I no longer use these pseudonyms as I want viewers to be clear that my films are completely my own work.
Click here for a map showing the route of the locations used in the film. It is not a walking route, but it shows the route on which I travelled by both car and foot between the various locations featured in the film: osmaps.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/r...
DISCLAIMER: Although I work hard to ensure all information is correct to the best of my knowledge, I am only featuring information I have found online during my research when putting this film together, so I cannot guarantee that there are no mistakes or errors.
As with all the films I make, this is a mini-movie of my personal journey along the walk, in which I might share some of my own personal stories, and not actually intended to be a guide to the area.
If you are new to my channel, I strongly recommend reading the description under the “about” tab, which will provide a clearer understanding of what to expect in my films: / solitaryrambler

I've never been to Whitby before, Patrick, so this video has given me a good insight as to what the lie of the land is like around the town. The harbour looks spectacular, and where it goes out towards the sea are those most brilliant lighthouses. The Abbey and the church on the hillside look amazing, and the town itself has some good looking old buildings. Robin Hood's Bay seems quite a pleasant little village, too. Most enjoyable to watch Patrick, thank you.

Ha ha well people kept saying to me "when you go to Whitby you must have the fish and chips from Magpie cafe, etc" and normally I wouldn't eat fish/scampi in a pub or restaurant, but I took the advice I was given and certainly the scampi was pretty yummy!! You'll love Whitby Frank and Lee, Robin Hoods Bay too if you get the chance. Cheers, Patrick :-)

I know both well as I grew up 35 miles away and my dad had a small yacht in Whitby (and later one in Runswick Bay) so we visited often. My son went to Fyling Hall School in Robin Hood's Bay when I lived in Saltburn-by-the-Sea 20 miles up the coast. It is certainly a nice place to live or visit, but it can be cold and wet.

What a beautiful film and accompanying music Patrick, loved the night shots at the end,you have had so many amazing days out,I am so pleased for you,and so grateful that you have shared them,I love the quirky little traits in your films like when you show the busy street after your first scampi comment, and all the people walk past, and then you walk past totally oblivious to the camera like you are just another passer by,those moments always make me smile. I don't know exactly what job you do for the council but I can tell you that your real talent lies in film making and presenting, this was another wonderful film. I love Whitby and so it was great to see you there, and again I learned so much more and I thought I knew quite a lot about the place beforehand, one of my favourite things there was the Grand Turk, the big Man O' War ship, but I see that by the time you had filmed it had already been sold and moved to France,I visited this summer and am delighted that in its place they have a permanent full size replica of Captain Cooks Endeavour with a cafe below decks and it's amazing. Thanks for another great film. Pete.

Thanks Pete, I wanted to get some night shots in for a change. You might be surprised to learn I do actually get embarrassed when there are a lot of people around whilst I am filming. If I feel I'm being watched whilst I'm speaking to the camera I freeze up, so there are many outtakes of a shot that viewers never see! :) I'm always a bit careful now what I say as well bearing in mind I am sharing my films with the public. Another lovely one to shoot anyway. Thanks again for watching :)

May i suggest the Black Horse pub (i think it's literally opposite where you had your scampi and chips) Fabulously welcoming pub, good beer and great people! Thanks for the video it has generally perked me up in these restricive times. Your account of Scarborough is gem too. I'm guessing the caravan site is just off the A64 taking a left at the roundabout on the Seamer Road about two miles out of the town centre 👍👍

Next time you manage to find the time to pop up here, check out Runswick Bay too, also Staithes, if you haven't been already. Thanks so much for these brilliant videos. I've always liked Whitby but never stayed there for a holiday. When I was a kid I stayed a lot in Scarborough and often went for walks on the old railway line, and sometimes we drove to Ravenscar and walked on the railway line to a pub called the Hayburn Wyke, or walk in the other direction towards Whitby, have you done these walks before. A walk I wasn't keen on was the Cleveland way because my fear of heights.

You take me back to long summer holidays in the 30s and 40s, we stayed with relatives near Saltburn but spent happy days in Whitby, Robin's Hood Bay, Saltburn, Staithes etc. In fact, I hadbeen listening to my great-great-aunt, Tamar Fletcher, with her wonderful Yorkshire accent (kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZojUYaOsgtWcbdk), then KZbin took me onto your Whitby video.
