gr8footy, Thanks for highlights of this game and the chance to see 70s Chelsea in action-swashbuckling side!

Being a Northumbrian people always ask why I support Chelsea. The excitement of watching players like Cooke,Houseman, Weller and Osgood goes a long way to explaining that. I still love watching them on the old footage now. Interesting game for me seeing my first boyhood hero Wyn Davies playing against my second, Ian Hutchinson. Let’s hope we get passed this Covid 19 quickly and Chelsea can get on and win the FA Cup. Cmon you mighty blues !!

RIP Keithy Weller on the wing - will also remember two goals in each away game at West Ham Blackpool & Derby amongst others that season & deserving of the European Cup winners Cup medal at end of season.

Isn't it lovely to see, real , English players.
@nguyendailam67032 жыл бұрын
The corresponding fixtures this season would probably have five English players on display at the most.

Cooke was Scottish. Davies was Welsh. So I'd go British.

Although a youngster at the time, I seem to remember Keith Weller scoring some spectacular goals for Leicester.

I saw him score a goal against Crystal Palace in 1973 from just outside the box and it was the winning goal..

A Newcastle team that were reigning Inter Cities Fairs Cup holders, but haven't won a trophy since. A strong Chelsea side who were on the way to European success that season. Osgood, Hutchinson, Houseman & Weller all since passed.

Haunt Boy: Sorry about that. R.I.P. for the names that stand out in the generation of erstwhile. Those were the good days of English football with names we could pronounce -- if we couldn't -- they couldn't play.

We wer'nt reigning inter cities fairs cup holders as that was the season before

@@joedexys You're quite right. Newcastle's success was followed by Arsenal in 69/70, I was mixing the years up.

Looked like he tried to kick the ball at the linesman at 12:58 or is it just me? Love these old games, thanks for uploading

A pity we can't see replays and clearer views for some of the linesmen's decisions. Anyway, Chelsea dominated and Newcastle were lucky not to lose by more. Excellent player, Weller.

Everton finished Champions this season....with a record 66pts.....what a team...the holy trinity of BALL, HARVEY, and KENDALL..💙

Arsenal won the double this season. Everton were champions 1969 -70.
@nguyendailam67032 жыл бұрын
@@JfK--OBJECTivE True, Everton had a torrid season 1970/71. Never really threatening more than a midtable finish.

Coleman - spot on at the end, an untidy game. Settled with a superb goal and an orange thrown at the linesman to boot.

An orange thrown at the linesman- was the thrower a"peel"ing a bad decision I wonder? - did to come to fruition?

The old Stamford Bridge for me is one of the strangest football grounds ever
@matthewcoombs32822 жыл бұрын
It always had a track around it. They had greyhounds and speedway up to 1968 and didn't lose the track until the ground got redeveloped in the mid 1990s. You had the rickety North Stand that was only used for the dog racing at the North End (pulled down in `1975 or 76 I think) and they had the lovely East Stand which nearly bankrupted the club open in 1974 part of a whole project to upgrade the ground until the cash ran out. I was a hodge podge of a ground.
@FranzSausage2 жыл бұрын
@@matthewcoombs3282 Unique stadium back then. Not typical british but also with a great atmosphere. I am from germany and in the 70s and 80s almost every stadium had a running track in our country.

@@FranzSausage it was known for having a poor atmosphere , even chelsea players have commented on it, very open stadium with one end completly uncovered

What's Coleman moaning about? Linesmen are doing their job!
@MisterGee19683 жыл бұрын
What Coleman should've said, was that the linesman was totally wrong ! If you freeze it for the 2nd one at 7:43 - Hutchinson is about 2 yards ON-SIDE !! Awfully poor judgement by the lino.....

Keith weller, was a vastly talented classy footballer, why the puck he was sold to palace is any ones guess.

He was not sold to Palace he went to Leicester City. Reason was i dont think he liked playing on the wing
