05 Toyota Prius thermostat replacement

We always called the little jiggle thing in the t-stat a jiggle valve, because that is what it does. It jiggles to let air bubbles to move along better. LoL

I just replaced the thermostat yesterday. It was spending me almost 2 hours. No need drain cooland but need a pan under engine to collect cooland when unscrew thermostat housing. Just unscrew two nuts on thermostat housing and take thermostat out. Then put new one and screw nuts back, add cooland after install new thermostat. That's all need to do. But. it's little hard time for new hand to do it because the room is small and hard to see the screw holes. If I do it again just take half hour to finish it.

Man, I wish I knew more about what I'm doing. The lighting with this camera doesn't do the deed for me, bit that's not you're fault. I just am not sure what I'm looking at. I do appreciate this video though, I'm sure I'll be able to go back to this at some point

thanks for the video brother! I have a 2008 Prius with the check engine light on for the thermostat this was very thorough and that maintenance mode is something I haven't seen in other videos. I'm trying to do my own work on my car now because I feel like shops charge too much for stuff that's not all that complicated. My mileage is about 140k right now I am hoping to make the car last at least to 300k. I'm pretty new to working on cars so is it good to change your coolant every so often? Also when refilling the coolant as the radiator is toped off it should be good right? Also what kind of funnel is that? It looks like it taps right into the radiator cap so you don't have to take it off. lol sorry if these are basic questions but like I said I'm new to doing any serious work on cars besides oil/brake changes. @Redacted Thirty Three Hi, you should be ok changing your coolant every 100k miles only if you use the pink coolant from toyota or valvoline from Wal-Mart. When filling up your radiator check it daily because it could still have air bubbles and it would cause the coolant to go down making the car over heat, once you check it and its still full then your good. @Asifhusen lqbal Patel, Welcome to MY2DAYLIFE! This could mean one of three things. 1 That the thermostat is stuck open. 2 There is air in the cooling system. 3 The heater core is clogged. These 3 things could definitely cause no heat inside of the car. Best of luck! 👍

seeing the new thermostat was good unlike other videos just showing too much crying removing the nuts and bolt. I think now that superauto sold me one of these Prius 2005 thermostats instead of the one for 2014 Prius.
