Great videos guys, I'm originally from Eastwood and the Erewash Canal is my old fishing/courting ground, I used to walk my old dog from Langley Mill to Trent Lock most Saturdays there and back 22 miles! Keep the great videos coming!👍

Jo & Michael: I found this piece and it made me think of Super George,, It may be just me but I think George has more personality. Ha Ha Hay it is still COVID-19 Mentality and we need some levity in our lives. If it were not for our two dogs it would be a miserable place. I am sure George, with all his energy, contributes many things to your lives, as you journey through the canals. When every I need a little bit of piece and quiet with humour I find another Minimal List VLOG. Stay Safe

From the basin at Langley Mill (I was raised nearby in Kimberley) they were on about making the Erewash / Cromford Canal usable beyond Langley Mill at least since I was a kid. I did a school local history project in 1984 about it. It's always been a muddy bog and I believe it will always stay that way. It may have been waiting even longer to be revitalised but I don't know. If they've not done it in my lifetime, I just can't see it ever reopening. Then again I remember in the 1980's watching the kids news show, Newsround where they were on about building the Chunnel from Dover to France and when talking to my Dad, he said they'd been on about that for donkeys years and it would never happen. They surprised us with that, even though I don't believe it should have been built. I don't suppose I should give up hope about the canal.

Yeah, it would be lovely to see that canal. restored. Whenever we are on restored canals, which is a lot of the time to be honest, we always feel so thankful for all the people that campaigned worked so hard to get them re-opened.

Hello guys wanted to thank you for making me home sick😟 I live in Asia but was born 1 mile from the great northern basin, must admit the area is a little run down these days but hey home is where the heart is! Where you moored at hallam fields Ilkeston I could see my daughters canal side home so that was quite surreal. I would like to subscribe twice to counter the guy who didn't want to cause offence by unsubscribing (i suspect he took his ball home too) There is a Langley Mill word for him but can't print it because of minors watching your channel. Anyway rant over but many thanks for your free vlogs🐕

Wow, that would be surreal, but glad you got to see it. Asia has its own wonders, of course (Vietnam will probably always be my spiritual home), but yeah it's interesting how there's always the tug of that place you've been. As for the unsubscriber, nah that's fine... we can't be everyone's cup of tea all at once! Cheers! M

There is Richard Arkwright's Mill at Cromford, which hopefully will get reconnected at a future time. The canal all the way through to there is a fantastic nature reserve at the moment, so I'm guessing there could be objections for opening it up again. Oh well there are so many different wish lists these days.

Awww...Happy Belated Birthday, George! Loved the scenery and interaction today. Not being much of a gamer myself (other than bingo! LOL) I think your idea for a game sounds interesting! I'm also not much of a gamer, which is why I rather doubt it'll go anywhere, but I just have this hilarious image of someone mashing buttons as fast as possible to raise the lock paddle while 007 suavely snipes the baddie in the helicopter and helps the young Gongoozler lass who swooned at the sight of him. And yes, Noah was great! I'm hoping we're the ones needing his shout out in a few years! M

I like your video game idea. As for the arm holding the camera, have you looked into a selfie stick with a counterbalance.
@MinimalList
@MinimalList 6 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure I'll ever get around to making it (my background isn't in games), but I keep dreaming up goofy levels. The selfie stick is actually a good idea, I just think I'm somewhat morally predisposed to doing the opposite of a Kardashian in all possible circumstances. The real problem is that our Osimo is quite heavy, and occasionally goes on the fritz suddenly. M

happy belated hatch out day George! walnut face & forgetting the marzipan?? oh dear he likes to live dangerously lol. was thinking of doing the Erewash so very handy to know what its like, would you recommend it? Michaels idea for a game is good.. but he needs to introduce a boat jousting element :-)
@MinimalList
@MinimalList 6 жыл бұрын
We would definitely recommend the Erewash. The locks were heavy and there are 14 of them on the 12 mile stretch so it is quite hard work but it is very quiet and there are a lot of moorings available. The scenery isn’t spectacular, but it is still nice and well worth a visit. Also, we met some really lovely boaters in this canal which always helps to enhance the experience. Michael’s jousting idea was for real life but it would be a good addition to the game too! ;-) Jo

Do you believe your content has shifted to more talking and less boating? Not being critical. I enjoy your channel. I'd watch a video of simply the real time segments of the sped up portions of this video, with actual canal sound. As an American gongoozler, this is the closest I can get to the canal life, for now. Happy travels!
@MinimalList
@MinimalList 6 жыл бұрын
You are the second person to mention that they don’t like the time lapses. Maybe I need to include less of them. The problem is we travel at 3-4 miles an hours in a ten minute video you’d get to see half an hour of canal side. Also out microphone isn’t that great so the sounds would be mainly engine noise and wind. Thanks for the feed back thought. I’ll definitely try and include more of this type of footage and limit the amount of time-lapses

@MinimalList
@MinimalList 6 жыл бұрын
Don't worry, we don't take constructive criticism as negative. We can't always respond to it (we'll try to incorporate some real time segments, but the reality is we shoot time lapse footage in part because it uses FAR less batteries and storage than real time, and we simply don't have extra batteries or storage), but we do appreciate it. If you click in the bottom right of the video you can click the subtitles on or off.
@MinimalList
@MinimalList 6 жыл бұрын
Subtitles aren't normally on by default. Jo does add a few overlaid ones when I say something impossible to hear or we flub a word, and those will always be there, but if they ones we add for the Hard of hearing are constantly showing up I'm afraid it's your setting in the KZbin client. Sadly the way to turn them off depends on your client; in the IOS app I use it's the "triple dot" button in the top right of the video, then Captions. In a web browser it's usually bottom right, but your mileage will vary by web browser. Sorry they're distracting. M

Well, in recent videos, I'm finding I'm turning the 'Closed Captioning' ON because I can hardly understand a word being said! I think part of the reason the captions come out as jibberish is because that's what they hear.
@MinimalList

We have started to manually update the subtitles so there should be no jobberish in the last four vlogs. I hope that helps. Jo

Sorry, just had to unsubscribe! Why do you put so much importance into speeding up your videos when actually cruising along the canals? Sure, we like to listen to your 'pieces to camera', but a voiced narrative as a background to a real-time video of your journeys would be so much more interesting from our point of view. That way we could enjoy your journeys and the scenery at the same time as listening to what you have to say. This comment is not intended to cause offence. Happy Cruising....!
@MinimalList
@MinimalList 6 жыл бұрын
No offence taken, thank you for taking the time to explain. It’s just our style I guess. We actually film those parts as time lapses rather than speeding up the clips. Maybe I need to find a better balance between the time-lapses and real-time footage. Also, we are not great at narration, we have tried it and it didn’t really suit us. There are plenty of other Narrowboat KZbinrs that make the kind of videos that you describe and I’m sure you watch and enjoy them. I think it’s great that we all have different have different styles as this gives viewers a variety to choose from. Sorry to see you go. Jo
