In Minnesota its a long cold dark winter. I put lights and pine garlands in my window boxes at Thanksgiving. White, Red, and Green. I light them all thru Christmas, in January, I light just white lights. End of the month I plug in the red ones thru ValentinesDay. After that, back to white til March when the green ones come on for St Paddy's. By then the light is coming back!

My favorite Christmas Carol movie is Scrooge with Albert Finney. Watch it every year. The music is great and the part where Bob Crachet shops with kids for Christmas is my fav. I also love Muppets Christmas Carol but it comes in second to this Scrooge.

For me, the black-and-white Christmas movies are the coziest. The Bishop's Wife (1947), Christmas in Connecticut (1945), Miracle on 34th Street (1947), It's a Wonderful Life (1946), The Shop Around the Corner (1940)... they're like warm hugs. And when I need some quirky or dark holiday humor, Mixed Nuts (1994)-Madeline Kahn should be in everything-and The Ref (1994) are perfect.

Guys: It’s very old school, but one of my favorite holiday traditions is watching the 1942 film ‘The Man Who Came To Dinner’, with Bette Davis and Monty Woolley. Also a version of A Christmas Carol, ’Scrooge’, starring a very young Albert Finney. Yes, I do love ‘The Muppet Christmas Carol’ because it’s so damn funny, but I also love ‘Scrooged’ with Bill Murray. So many traditions…😆🎄

A couple of years ago around July I was driving and stopped at a red light. It was hot af so I had my windows up with the AC on, but I could hear music/commotion coming from a few cars away. Looked over and saw people in the car absolutely JAMMING to the music & dancing so hard that the car was shaking. Got curious and rolled down my window… they were scream singing along to Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You 😂

As a Brit I think Wallace and Gromit (usually a close shave or the wrong trousers) end up associated with Christmas. As does a christmas eve pub trip haha! Favourite christmas song has to be Fairytale of New York, it's definetly unique in it's take to a Christmas song (though be aware that an F word commonly used as an insult is used in the original if you do go check it out)

One my fav Christmas songs is “Last Christmas “. But my hot take is that it is not a Christmas song at all, and may not originally be one. Aside from the one word, “Christmas”, in the lyrics there is ZERO holiday content in the song. Further, you could replace “Christmas” with say “Friday” with no change in the song’s intention. It actually makes more sense “Last Friday I gave you my heart, but the very next day you broke it apart”. In Britain and Canada (where I am at) the day after Christmas is Boxing Day, which is an extra holiday for either relaxing or going out for super shopping deals. It doesn’t make sense that someone would be able to go out and meet someone and break up with you. Typically is still mostly a holiday with places closed except for malls. No one is meeting a better catch at the mall on what is the equivalent of Black Friday.

Xmas in July is a thing in the southern hemisphere. I’m Australian and we would hire a cabin in the mountains (hoping in the off chance it would snow) as a way to bring some joy to our boring dry, cold winters. Christmas in summer is great don’t get me wrong, we always go to the beach and eat prawns (shrimp) and drink summer cocktails with cherries, stone fruit and berry covered pavlova (a meringue fruit covered desert) as well as the turkey and ham; but we do crave the winter Christmas that the northern hemisphere rave about.

shane i'm glad you enjoyed a sunday roast over here! that kind of meal is actually very similar to our traditional christmas dinner too. we love going to a good carvery, which is what we call restaurants that are dedicated to this specific meal, usually buffet style. we have a chain called Tobey's that is just carvery, but most are independant pubs-- roasties, gravy, chicken/gammon/beef (turkey on christmas day!) broccoli, sprouts, stuffing, yorkshire puddings, and mashed potato! hope you enjoyed it here in the UK. london is pretty magical at christmas so you came at the right time! edit: i totally feel the same re catching Elf while it's airing on tv!!!! similarly with polar express too. i don't watch many movies but do watch some that you guys recommend so i'm gonna watch Spirited! didn't even know it existed haha. have a great christmas

I swear, every time you guys ask Steven if he’s seen this or that movie, I’m like “Why bother?!” No offense meant, I just find it funny. It’s the same way with me asking my wife. Favorite Christmas song: growing up, my mom had this Kenny Rogers/Dolly Parton Christmas album. I always ended up liking that much more than the standard Christmas music. Particular favorite was one called “Once Upon a Christmas.” I kind of hate it now, but as a kid I loved “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer.” One year my family kept making me sing it for them. Also, a non-traditional one but so good: “A Fairytale of New York.” Hozier just played it on SNL this weekend and it was so good.

I unabashedly love Christmas music. Some of my favorite songs are: Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy by Bing Crosby & David Bowie (and the delightful parody by John C. Reilly and Will Ferrell) Do You Hear What I Hear Santa Baby (but only the Eartha Kitt version) A banger I sometimes forget exists is the Barenaked Ladies and Sarah McLachlan version of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen/We Three Kings." Three movies I have to watch at Christmas are Scrooged, The Santa Claus, and 1990's The Nutcracker Prince featuring the voices of Kiefer Sutherland and Phyllis Diller.

My wife and I saw it at our local Regal for $5 each two weeks before it hit streaming and we watch it every year now.
