This was the exact problem I had for my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500. I had replaced the bulb once and looked into this issue by viewing several videos on youtube. I found several videos on resetting the TIPM which this video doesn't mention. I dreaded for 6 months to do anything with the wiring or TIPM. So I kept using the high beams for awhile. Then one day my engine light came on. Bought an OBDII diagnostic interface to see what the issue was. Turns out that there were two codes. One referred to the lamp that wasn't working that the TIPM said had received too much amperage so it was shut off. The OBDII app asked to reset it, I selected yes, turned on the lights and it was FIXED! NO WIRING CHANGES! NO TIPM RESET! The other issue which actually turned on the engine light was an indication of low transmission fluid. Another easy fix. I find it interesting that no one in the comments nor the video mentions anything about using a car diagnostic scanner (OBDII interface) to correct the TIPM. Did I get lucky or is this something that very few people know about the Dodge Ram?
@romans12956 жыл бұрын
Nick Smith I have not heard of that. I work at a Chrysler dealer and none of our interface devices have that option. That must be a aftermarket thing that can somehow turn the driver back on. Thanks for the info

Nick, what is the brand and model of that OBDII you used? My left side low beam has been out for 3yrs as I am not going to spend upwards of a thousand dollars to repair the problem. I have gotten by using my fog lamps as they are sufficient in illumination and representing the width of the vehicle which is all our laws require.

I read this one other place I think I will start here maybe so as to not splice and jump wires, I'm worried about causing further damage by jumping. This "too high"amperage makes sense because all I did was change my headlight maybe somehow it got a strong shock it didn't like?

If you do this fix, its best to run the wire through a relay. By just jumping wire to wire, I got about a year out of the fix before both low beams stopped working, and forced into buying a new tipm. Lights were good after new tipm for about a year and issue has returned. Ran the wire through a relay, and have worked for two years and going....

@@jpablo041997 when both of the low beams go out, I replaced my tipm. Good rig bro but behind the air box where those wires run to the ecu is a common spot for wires to short, corrosion, come apart, also by your left foot when driving there’s a harness down there that’s also a common area for shorts, wire spits, and corrosion. From my back yard experience with these systems , buying and flipping rams they don’t like shit tap into them. Any aftermarket alarms, kill switches, radios etc can effect the can communication. Check anywhere you’ve added accessories, heat and metal can also effect it. Check where the harnesses are routed for rub and wear and burn marks. Any short, out bulb in the cabin can cause other things to act up as there all tied to the same circuit is how I basically look at a dodge. BMW is another one who does the same thing. I’m no mechanic but I’ve work on a good bit of these as I do my own work as much as my tools allow

Rather than double the load on the remaining low beam circuit of the TIPM it might be better to use the remaining good circuit to control a relay that feeds both low beams. Also you don't mention if you have a "lamp out" light on your dash. I do, and have done the splice repair and got both low beams back but the "lamp out" light still shows. I suspect running hotter bulbs over stock such as Silverstar Ultras, as I have, overloaded the circuit on the TIPM and burnt it. All these expensive and unececesary computers in cars nowadays make me want to buy an older car I fix anything myself.
@romans12957 жыл бұрын
MrTdw1954 No "lamp out" light was on dash and this truck was running stock bulbs. Running a relay is a great idea. For this truck it really wasn't worth it, this truck is pretty beat up. I actually just talked to the owner tonight and the headlamps are still going strong. But yeah a relay would be awesome insurance especially when running "hot" aftermarket lights. Good video. I actually did this about a year and a half ago, and it bought me about a year. I ran the wire from one light to the other rather than connecting them at the TIPM. A few months ago, my low beams went out completely on both sides, though. Maybe it was too much for the TIPM to handle one side powering both lights? Who knows? It was still a good solution. It got me an inspection sticker for the year. Hopefully your buddy's will last a little longer. Anyway, the solution I'm working on now is using the fog lamps to power the low beams.

Checked power at the bulb connector on the good side...with low beams on, I get 11.98v on low beam wire and 10.4v on high beam. When I switch the high beams on, it reverses and there's 10.4v at the low beam wire and 11.98v at the high beam. When I check the passenger side, I'm getting 10.4v on the low beam regardless if the headlights are in the low or high beam position...so it's still getting power, just not enough to power the bulb. Will the jumper trick still work on mine, or is it possibly another issue?

Could have just took the positive and negative wire off battery held them together with zip ties for about fitee. Minutes to complete reset the tipm relays. If it still doesn't work after than then do this. But this is guaranteed tipm replacement later down the road as the passenger driver WILL go bad with the extra load. Usually within six months.

It’s really not complicated and if you are in the HVAC field you can probably do it, if it comes to that but just be sure you double check your wires to make sure your taping into the correct ones. Soldering is easy especially if you have done it previously and with a little time you can find a wiring diagram online. If it comes down to you doing it, send me a message and I will help you with the wiring diagram

Seems as though this is common on Chrysler/dodge vehicles...I pulled my fcm off the ipm and sanded/slightly twisted the flat prongs as I heard its typically the fcm that causes this...that didnt work so I checked the voltage at the bulb where the low beam didnt work...nada.so whats left is a wiring issue/ipm issue. At least now I know push come to shove I can jumper it like this.thanks man,btw how long did this hold up?

Craig Shelhammer thanks for the comment. This truck has no FCM and is still running both low beams off one driver almost two years later. Good luck!

Trying to see if goin to the junk yard would I find it and if so from what year to year do I look for???
@romans12955 жыл бұрын
Luis Ceja it would be difficult to find. You would have to find the same year truck with all the same options. It will be tough. Good luck

My right headlight is having a problem and it also interfere with my left brake lights and my fog lamps and turning signals. The passenger side headlight which is failing is a double filament and the high beam is not working. Would that cause my problem ?

Hi just wanted to ask i have a 2017 ram rebbel 1500 i had one headlight go out about 2 weeks after o got the truck then few weeks later 2nd headlight gonre then i started driving with my high beams then one high beam went out then 2nd few weeks later now i am driving with the lil fog lights at the bottom. Any suggestions, i already took tipm out and did hard reset no luck.please let me know going nuts, went back to dealer they were no help.
@romans12955 жыл бұрын
kimberly touhey. That sounds like a bulb issue. I have had no issue with the new TIPM's, especially on the rebel. Does your truck have any aftermarket lights, bulbs or ballasts?

Can someone please make a video like this for 2016 4th gen ram !! I hate that RAM has this issue it’s cost me a lot of money buying hid ballast and bulbs before finding out it’s the truck killing them not faulty products
@Garandmasthumb5 жыл бұрын
I have same side as you but brights on both sides works . Is this issue for low beams? Which is my issue on the driver side.

Thank you for video worked on my viper truck and was wondering if it works for the highbeams too
@younglifefranklincounty91775 жыл бұрын
I believe it would, I haven't tried a high beam and I wouldn't be scared to try. Worst case would be a fried TIPM but if one or more drivers are bad, the TIPM is already shot. For your 8.3L the High drivers are...White/Light green for the left and White/Grey for the right. Good luck..

What type. Of wire should one used to run it. I have the same problem.
@romans12956 жыл бұрын
Lisardo huerta I would use a 16 gage wire, whatever color you can get at the parts store

I did this on my truck and it worked but when I turn the car on none of the low beams work only the high beams. I am running LED bulbs would that be why they don't work, since there's too much voltage off one driver ??
@romans12955 жыл бұрын
M Bravo usually LED’s don’t run higher voltage but it’s the lower resistance that mess with the drivers. You said it worked? Did it work for a bit then stop? My second question is, are you sure you are on the correct wires? Third question is, are both low drivers bad?
@mbravo98545 жыл бұрын
yea they worked while the car was off but didn't when it was on but I think it was the LEDs cause I put in Halogen bulbs and everything works fine now. looked more into it might need resistors to run the LEDs

I just bought a 2007 ram 2500, lowbeams do not work at all, i changed the bulbs and that did not work. The connectors have been replaced also but the highbeams work fine. is there a way to quick fix this without replacing the TIPM.
@romans12956 жыл бұрын
SledNeck117 it doesn't sound like it. I would still test for power and ground and make sure all fuses good but if both drivers are down you may be looking at replacing the TIPM.

I have 12v to the low and high beam wire on the right passenger but no low beam light..any ideas? if the tipm / pcm is bad then why would i get power?
@romans12955 жыл бұрын
Fred Young if you have 12v on the low and high wires, you either have no ground or a bad bulb. Double check your powers and ground.
@johnmendoza81553 жыл бұрын
So you put one to the other wire?
@romans12953 жыл бұрын
The TIPM has one driver for each low beam. I just ran both drivers off my one good driver. So yes. You could use a relay but mine has been fine so far.
