I'm having all the control arms and Knuckles and hubs replaced in my 2007 jeep patriot. It's been in the shop about 3 weeks . He says he encountered rust. It was making funny sweets and high speed rhythmic vibrations with the windows rolled up . These cross members are pretty cheap to buy and I can see why . Maybe spray the new one with anti rust paint. Idk

yeah that little bracket thing that covers the electrical connector for the viscous coupler unit thing squeaked bad on my patriot.. just bent it back so it didn't make contact with the metal portion of the differential mount.

A mechanic told me he couldnt do an alignment because of the rust to the rear subframe and it needs to be replaced .. How does rust on the subframe affect his ability to do an alignment?

because all of the alignment bolts and cams that adjust the alignment are attached to the rear subframe.

On the compass & Patriot which I am most familiar with there is really no alignment to em. A decent quality subframe is basically what keeps everything in these garbage scows in line.

If it’s more than ten years old you’re facked. I took my 2011 in for the front frame and they said the rear was fine 5 years later it just broke after going over an unmarked speed table the city decided we needed. I’m not looking forward to this.

The one I’m doing is even worse. Where that one is thin and almost broken. Mine is broken. I had to be careful not to hit the gas too hard getting it home. And I don’t have a lift😢. But the price was right and the front was either already replaced or washed better. 😂

@@ElectronicMechanic50 In most cases here in the Northeast where they use that Brine for road salt the the lateral links will need to be replaced the cam bolts seize fast inside the collars. I usually coat the new ones with copper anti seize simply because them rear axles can throw off alotta heat which also helps them cam bolts rust in place real good so a smathering of copper anti seize works good. Recapping the outter lateral link bolts I believe from my good friends knowledge that works at Jeep dealer them outter bolts have opposing threads so they are made to be heated up to get removed. I always keep that in the back of my mind because I really struggled thru my first two rear sub frames went hard. Now its a breeze after ya done one or two. I always remove the calipers and rotors because of the penetrating sprays I use. Makes sense other than your customer returning for free brake pads and new rotors. For the most part the shit heads that sell these subframes know enough to give ya new cam bolts but no the links which is another clown show. If U are first timer doing this job order Lateral Links with the new subframe. $25 bucks on Amazon

@@eternalsoundschicago U have a real point to ask. Just Caliper bolts if everything else comes apart when U buy the Subframes they usually come with the bolts U need. So no need to get paranoid of the job. Calipers can be worn otherwise other than dealing with the Mayhem I did it should go conventional. Nobody can predict factory sabotage... its a smooth job. The front subframes U really need a lift and support jacks on the front sub frames... Total labor about $1,000 they really gaff ya there. Just check the bake stuff lines and hoses... Go 4 it.. Not that bad a job once U convince yourself you R gonna work hard at it for a while. That rear is heavy & ya need a hefty JACK to get it on back there.. Not that bad just takes MOXY. @@thekingsilverado3266 thank you. I just did the front along with bushings, sway bar links, controls and ball joints. I didn’t do the tie rods because they felt good but when I took it in for alignment they said they were bad. Lesson learned. I’m going to replace those along with the front struts first then tackle the rear frame, shocks, and all new suspension parts. Did it all on jack stands and it sucked.
