I believe Daniel Buckley was in lifeboat 13, men were ordered out of that lifeboat as there were many women still on deck. Daniel said it was Mrs Astor that gave him his shawl because it was Mrs Astor's shawl. Leah Aks was also on lifeboat 13 and she told the story of Mrs Astor giving a shawl to keep her baby Filly warm so I'm guessing Leah Aks was the woman who gave Daniel Buckley the shawl and told him to return it to Mrs Astor. Leah Aks was separated from her son Filly who was put into boat 11 so I see her feeling sorry for Daniel who at 21 may have looked a lot younger. Thank you for sharing Daniel Buckley's story.

This is so smart! I should look into this and maybe mention it in a future episode!

I truly look forward to these. I’m both a history major and lifelong student of both *Titanic* and the great liners of the era. Primary resources such as survivor accounts are some of the best resources we. Hearing these accounts really brings the events in question to focus in a manner that is exceptional.

We may never know EXACTLY what happened, but at least you know while reading their words, something I am reading is the absolute truth... it's really cool.

I’m absolutely loving this series! I read through the highlights of the US inquiry transcripts years ago, but the way you’ve brought them to life is superb (bonus points for not trying to imitate accents!) Waiting on the updates from the 2024 wrecks-pedition with great anticipation. PS- if wrecks-pedition isn’t a term it should be!

Maybe 855 Trent Avenue is really 855 East Tremont Avenue. Tremont is a popular avenue in the Bronx. A lot of Irish moved to that area. I just listened to the end, and found out it was indeed Tremont Avenue! Beautiful poem, by the way.

I think I found it was exactly that! The inquiry recorded it incorrectly as they would do at times.

James, excellent as always. What boat do you think Daniel escaped in?

Why didnt the others follow Daniel into first class?
@WitnessTitanic4 ай бұрын
I'm sure many did! But there were societal rules at play even during the sinking. Certain 3rd class passengers spent their lives to this point being told what to do. Some would have stayed in their cabins waiting for orders! So passengers that made it to the well decks, looking for answers? They already were outside of their comfort zones potentially. Only the most daring would have gone beyond those little gates. Maybe since Daniel was only 21, he didn't care about his class. He wanted to get to the boats.

@@WitnessTitanic Seems possible. I have to say that in a way it seems more tragic that the barriers that kept them below decks were mostly in their minds. By the way, the podcast has been excellent SO far, keep up the good work!

@@augustosolari7721 Exactly! Its surprising how little stood between the three classes, and even how easily a woman could just go into the men's smoking room. What kept them apart, mostly, was social norms and pressures.
