My nephew is a first responder. While being immensely proud of his service, it has taken its toll. He has entered a ptsd healing center that is strictly for police and fire, 90 days. He has since decided to retire, we are all grateful for that difficult decision. It has saved his life ❤ He served for 20 years.

Thank you for this comment. I was a first responder ( flight/ER nurse and medic, and taught EMS.) Additionally, volunteered as a reserve deputy sheriff for four years. Since having been retired now, for over 17 years, l never dreamed that I would ever be watching these kind of videos ever again, but here I am. Even though, we become almost ‘inoculated ,’ to this kind of trauma, some responses stay with us forever. It was always hard to lose a patient, in our hands, but it was especially difficult when it came to children.

Telling or asking someone to stop drinking and driving is like asking a child not to eat the cookies sitting on the coffee table. He may look at you and promise he won't touch them,but as soon as you are gone,little hands reach for the cookies. When confronted they plead and cry and promise to never do it again,hoping that you will forgive them because they believe you should believe everything they say,when in fact they have no intention of keeping that promise. Drunk drivers are much the same,they don't think about circumstances or find it easier to lie by omission and deal with things later. Unfortunately that later usually comes as a result of an incident( refuse to call them accidents) severely injuring or killing someone. And when confronted they say I'm sorry, I'll never do it again in hopes that you believe them.

I also didn't know I could of fought the Total cuz it was amazing now it's a taxi in ny most likely nyc after getting fixed up like new...

Those little cars, regardless of how carefully they are driven, don't stand a chance against those high centered, full sized trucks with that massive kinetic energy and heavy body-on-frame build. On my way to school one day a hundred years ago on 494, I saw one of those (even smaller from the 90s) cars hit head on by a lifted suburban with a steel tube bull bar style front bumpers you bolt a winch onto and I'm not sure if any rust even flaked off of the giant rig but the car, I believe a Corolla like when they made a GEO from for Chevrolet, was completely smashed and UNDER the front and didn't even throw off the alignment as it was stopped from going further under by the dang solid front axle. Never driven anything smaller than a 4Runner rolling on 33"s although I did have an Astro van that I was aware of their rolling coffin reputation but drove only in SF at the time to and from a dog daycare I co-owned and to drop off a few client's dogs in the afternoon (rarely) on city street speed limits and freeway only in town that due to traffic never gets to a high speed. As slow as you have to go to not cause a crash, I never even felt unsafe in my wife's Honda Element but any road trips were taken in rental Tahoe's or F150s cause I never got that image out of my mind that happened when I wasn't even 16 yet. Drove a Chevy S-10 Blazer w the 4 speed manual and ugly base model hubcaps and remember feeling SO SMALL driving past that giant 'Burban
@greatmartini1Ай бұрын
@Floydian4everr you are 100% correct. I drive an SUV with factory 19" tires and a heavy front end. I see these new "micro-cars" like the Leaf or Bolt on the freeway trying to do 70mph, and all I see is a coffin on wheels. I was a paramedic and firefighter years ago and saw horrible accidents between Suburban type vehicles and these tiny cars. I never purchased a "great gas mileage" vehicle after that. Even if you are doing 30mph and the other vehicle is doing 35mph (like the accident that killed my mother), you still have a 65mph impact. And if you're in an electric Chevy Bolt and are trapped, you will burn to death when the damaged battery catches fire.

It's unbelievable to realize the catastrophic destruction that can occur in car accidents until you actually see them.. I grew up in the early 80s, and watched all the movies from the state highway patrol in Ohio about accidents, "Blood on the Highways" and "Mechanized Death". These movies need to be shown again to teens and anyone seeking a license.

Every year, every driver should have to spend minimum 4 hours watching shows sbout drivers under the influence, whether it be alcohol or drugs. Focus on showing cars mangled and the bereaved familys standing around a graveside weeping & mourning their deceased loved one who was either the driver under the influence or the victim who was killed by a driver under the influence.

I took Drivers Ed in 10th grade in the 80's. We had units on DUI and driving distracted, but I don't remember being shown a video of a fatal collision like this one. I know it's the sort of footage I would never forget. I don't know if Drivers Ed is still a required high school course, or whether the present concern over children's slightest sensitivities would mean fatal crashes could even BE shown anymore- but I think they should be. DUI and texting while driving can destroy life in seconds. New drivers should realize driving is a huge responsibility- and a privilege that can be revoked- and safe habits instilled early might reduce tragedies like these.

Long ago, just 21 i think..i was following a friend to their house after a late night at Disneys dance club we loved alot. And my car had problems. But very weird problems..yet i drove it a hour and a half to Disney ebery weekend and then around and back home. So i was following them, and it was around a lake and no lights. Very dark. My whole radio, lights just everything went out. Motor was running. Stupid me i bent over to get mad no radio was on. Yet...had no hesd lights. Split second really all this happened, and i hit head on another vehicle. I was doing 54. Them idk. I hit the windshield. Anyways, i walked out if it. Signed paper not to be treated. Yet i had a bad concussion. To this day, im 54, i cannot lay flat back. I cannot look straight up to the sky. Without something popping in my head and i become off balance dizzy like. Was worse like fall off the earth dizzy for three yrs. Then had to learn what triggered it. And i had, have, what i call flair ups. Bad days. Which used to take weeks to stop. Now just a day or so. And no, still never go to a doctor to figure it out. All one had told me was i needed to be tilted so the "rocks" could go back into place. Stupidest thing i ever heard so. Nope.

@jrnfw40602 ай бұрын
Why did you sign that paper to not allow treatment? Chances are, had you been treated right away, a lot of your lingering side effects might have been prevented. If you have a concussion, even if it doesn't feel serious at the time, still get it checked out. Many a race car driver has died because he put off going to the hospital after receiving a head injury. Head injuries should never be ignored. I'm sorry you ignored yours. You've been paying for it ever since.
