Weston-super-Mare was the seaside resort my family and I visited the most when I was growing up. I always enjoyed coming here on caravan holidays, and then later on in my life I ended up living here for a while. I return to Weston at the start of summer 2017 to reminisce about those great family holidays and how my life was affected when I became a resident…..
Filmed in Weston-super-Mare in the county of Somerset. Locations include Weston Bay, Knightstone Island, Birnbeck Pier, Sand Bay, Sand Point and Uphill.
Written, researched, directed, camera and sound, edited and music by Patrick Leach.
Any other names credited in this film, i.e. Bob Morgan and Martin Roy, are pseudonyms, which I used at the time of making this film. However, I no longer use these pseudonyms as I want viewers to be clear that my films are completely my own work.

I Knew Weston Super Mare from early childhood days, with talent competitions on the pier and walks along Marine Promenade, so lots of memories. Also remember a life guard waving me out of the water due to incoming tide. I just blissfully waved back. ! Your soundtrack melody sounds familiar too. Reminds me of a song I used to sing called "This Masquerade".

Yes the tide is certainly infamous in Weston. The tune I created for this was one I composed when I lived in Weston in the late 1990s, but I never recorded it at the time, so it seemed appropriate to do so when I shot this film. Thanks Shanita for watching 😊

Cracking film Patrick. I knew nothing at all about Weston Super Mare,I didn't know it was like that at all. They did a great job restoring the pier,a lot of councils wouldn't have bothered,especially with what it cost,I hope they finally restore the Birnbeck pier,it looks so full of character,how cool to have a pier that takes you to an island. The church at the end was awesome with the sea view,it reminded me of the similar one on top of the Great Orme in Llandudno,we take out history for granted,how great that you can just walk to an everyday church like that,that dates from 1080. Great job again Patrick,thankyou. Pete.

Thanks Pete. I think Birnbeck Pier is just going to fall away. Far too much money needs to be invested in it unfortunately for it to be restored, so it's really sad. That is a lovely church at Uphill isn't it. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks again for watching :)

Holidayed in Weston Super Mare as a 2 year old in 1973.. Cant remember it lol but my mum has super 8 footage of me playing on the beach.. Returned for the first time a few years back just after the Grand pier was rebuilt due to the fire..Really nice Seaside town.. I stayed at the caravan park in Brean sands 😊

Never been to Western Super Mare, I have heard that locally it is known as Western Super Mud because of it's beach as you point out in the video. It looks like a place I would enjoy and the Pier looks fabulous. Birnbeck Pier looks an amazing structure, I genuinely hope it can be saved.

Weston is famous for its nickname and the tide seemingly being out most of the time. I fear that Birnbeck Pier is too far decayed now as it's in a real state. The cost would be so high. Real shame.

Weston was a holiday resort as a young person but not favourite now but visited in the l960s now not a resort visited as I have no children but nice beach for family’s .Church in nice position .Z job in this area not too bad I had my Surat job in Great Yarmouth again nice old resort liked Norwich as a main city for shopping then.Laura Ashley was a favourite shop then.But moved around the country with my job so had a lot of. places to get to know.Good in that respect but new ones better.
