this was a fantastic short video which reminded me of some of the techniques - I've been away a long time from cold wax and oils and needed a quick reminder! thank you!

Lovely! 👍 👍. But I personally wouldn't cut them up but treat it as ONE painting. Just mat board it up as is and frame it! Half a dozen of these and you have a very very good exhibition.

So pretty. Did you put gesso on your paper first Patt?
@pattscrivenerartist Жыл бұрын
No -I use Arches oil paper - it is ready to paint on. If you use watercolour paper you need to gesso it so the oil doesn’t absorb through to the back.

What is cold wax please?
@pattscrivenerartist Жыл бұрын
Cold wax is a made up of beeswax, solvent and some damar resin. Unlike encaustic wax you don’t fuse it as the addition of solvent evaporates and allows it to dry. It is added to the oil paint in a ratio up to 50%.
@suzijorgensen6545 Жыл бұрын
Stupid question really... what is COLD WAX? I work in Acrylics?. Can you use cold wax and acrylics?
@pattscrivenerartist Жыл бұрын
Cold wax is a mixture of beeswax, resin, and solvent. It can’t be mixed with acrylic but you can wax ( as a varnish) an acrylic painting with cold wax. After waxing you would not be able to paint over it with acrylic. I think there is a wax you can mix with acrylics though.
