Clearly the administration (which either hasnt given reasoning or wasnt presented in the video) feels they violated the overall code of conduct that is the agreement which grants people who abide by it the protest rights. For argument’s sake, this sure sounds like “2,000+ people violated our code of conduct, but only these 13 went far enough that we feel punishment that deters one of the key tenants of our academic mission is warranted.”

I can’t tell you how much it means to me that this brave young woman stood up for life and for freedom. I’m an American living in Egypt for 18 years now, not far from Gaza, where my son’s best friend lives. His name is Yusuf, he is 15 years old, and running from place to place in Gaza to try to save his life and his mom’s and two brother’s lives. Yusuf calls my son as often as he can to tell him he’s still alive and ok. There is a name and a face to each human being you at Harvard are standing up for, and you gave something so precious you have been working for: your futures, your time, all those hours you studied hard to graduate, your hearts and souls, to stand up for those being murdered in Gaza, those bright young students in Gaza who will never graduate. I needed hope myself, I needed to see someone in my country cared, you gave that to me, and to the people of Gaza. The Gazan’s know you are doing this for them, and just to know you care means the world. I love all you students so much!

I'm 59, and the fall of the country is in no way guaranteed. What about us, and what we do about it? The sad state of affairs is that millions of Americans have not risen up over many years to make the country better. Why do we sit by and let things happen that we say we don't like? Has the country ever been what it should have been? Why do well-meaning people keep voting for Democrats when they've done nothing significant for working people since Medicare in 1965? The Affordable Care Act did help millions of people to get health insurance, but millions of others still can't afford it, so it was not a solution. But we didn't need more private health insurance that may or may not approve to pay for a treatment. We should have had Medicare for All, which Obama said he supported as a Rep. in Illinois. We should have long ago increased the Pell grant to pay for tuition, but Jimmy Carter gave us increased student loans. We should have turned the minimum wage into a living wage, but Democrats put it at $7.25/hr in 2007. We should have strengthened unionization, subsidized child care salaries, put Pre-K salaries on the same level as other teachers, lifted the Soc Sec tax cap, etc, etc. We can have all those things if we do something to get them. Vote for someone who supports them all. Fill the government with people who care about us.

As far as I've seen, all of the protesting students on all these universities are exercising their rights according to our First Amendent and are protesting peacefully. She has more balls than all of the faculty behind her. (Edit) Consider this: three of the five in the majority SCOTUS decision, Citizens United, v SEC were Harvard law grads. This decision was an interpretation of the 1st amendment that basically gave more power for freedom of speech to wealthy individuals, institutions, etc. Yet students protesting genocide are being denied their 1st amendment rights. And because of Citizens United, AIPAC is able to earmark $100,000,000 to oppose Democrats who are not supportive enough of Israel. I won't even get into the neoliberalism of universities and the control of universities by donors. Nor will I address academic incest or excellent sheep. I have great respect for this woman. But some comments seem more concerned with "prestige" or choice of turn-of-phrase than with freedom of the individual or the 36,000 Palestinians murdered.

I was a whistleblower in a Corporate, for ethical reasons. I paid the price, as have many. Harvard has, in a perverse way, taught these students that practising ethics can be a reason to get fired from one's job. This, too has happened to many. I applaud Harvard for teaching ethics in the first place. The perversion lies in the fundamental truth that Harvard itself, and many corporate companies don't have room for ethics. They'll stomp on anyone who practises them.

It certainly is not ethical to infringe on the basic rights of people with whom you disagree. Intimidating Jewish students, preventing them from pursuing their own education, all under the pretense of "your rights" is not ethical. Where did you get your education? The antebellum South? Nazi Germany? WWII Romania? Read a book.

The courage of that young lady in front of that group of people trying hard to control their faces and body language for fear of reprisal themselves. I graduated from The New School in 2015. It took me decades to finish my bachelor's largely because of the expense of college. I paid for that degree on my own. I'll be damned if I was at Harvard and they wouldn't give me my degree I worked for. We'd be taking that to the Supreme Court...but of course....but who knows these days how that might play out SMFH.
