Brandon decided to buy a winter beater 4 Runner so his other Yota doesn't get dirty. It really isn't a "beater", it's in pretty good shape. Just needs a little tender loving care that's all. We were checking it out and noticed a heatsink poking out under the front seat. This is what it turned out to be. In time, we will put something in this and get it slumping. What I love about this is it's clearly not a system that's up to your usual install quality, but you're still excited AF about working on it and helping to get it up and pumping -- the elite level systems are cool and all, but this is common-man stuff and cool to see too! My vote is definitely to keep it a budget system, maybe tidy up some of the hazardous parts and walk us through the why. Perhaps you could send the amp to barevids for a repair :)

I recommend to get the CS144 Alternator upgrade I did it to my 2002 4runner and it helped a lot, it will go from 80 amps stock to 140 amps and you don't have to spend that much... I am running 3 amps JP23, JP8.4 and alpine PDX -F4 and it does the job.

I have a 98 4Runner. 317k mi. still running strong. The original alternator lasted to 277k mi. Can't beat that!! I didn't want my amps to get stolen to I have both my amps under the seats. Best place for them!!

Right on Meade! I've got a 3rd gen 4runner I just built out a new system in. Love my yota. Have had it since it was new. I've put 8 different systems in it over all the years. I've got 2 custom Sundown XV2 12s and a 5k pushing them right now.

4Runner for the win! I still have my 88 4Runner. 30 years ago I had 4 12inch XTR Orion subs with ppi 4inch 2ways ppi tweeters in a-pillar and 2sets of Alpine 5&1/4s had and old school big Hott Set-up amp running subs a clarion 75x2 a crossfire 4 channel and an old school Orion amp that was 50x2.

I got a a 2000 4Runner on the same 2015 Tacoma 17 inch alloys on 33 inch Mickey Thompson tires lifted 5 inches ! Your looks similar! Mine an automatic though ! Yours is a 5 speed that R-150F trans is worth 3k all day by itself!!!

Hook the amp up to your test bench. It may be a waste of time but you may find that the vehicle wiring is the cause and the amp is fine.

I had the 500w version. It lasted through hell and back and is still kicking. Judging by the squished wires. The previous owner probably blew it up and couldn’t figure it out himself and just took the subs out

Id like to see if you can repair it or get it repaired. These days we just throw out amps left to right soon as they go bad but it could be simple as just one mosfet shorting or like you said dry solder joints

I would do a full rebuild of the audio system with better wiring, better amp, and a decent Pioneer or a Alpine head-unit to go along with that amp.
