My grandmother has worked for the vikings organization since 1980(She plans to retire for good after the 2024 season ends when she will be 82 years old) She still HATES the bears so much because of this game for some reason

To date, this remains the last Bears road playoff win.

Warren Moon had a fine career, but also a lot of conspicuous playoff flameouts.

I liked Warren Moon, but man he was the slowest moving black quarterback in history. Threw a beautiful spiral though. Nobody spun it like him.

As a Houston Oilers fan, this is typical Warren Moon: in the high stakes games, he had good moments but could never seal the deal on his own.

@@jamesroberts1810 Well, in 9 playoff games Moon played with the Oilers, he threw 10 TDs and the Oilers scored 112 points in the first half, and he threw 5 TDs and the Oilers scored 77 points in the second half plus overtime periods. Against the 91 Broncos and 92 Bills, Moon had zero TD passes while the Oilers had two FGs and a Bubba McDowell INT TD in the second half plus overtime period. The 91 Broncos had a slightly better Defense than did the 91 Oilers, but the 91 Oilers' Run and Shoot Offense was stronger than the 91 Broncos' Offense. It was the opposite with the 92 Bills who had a slightly stronger Offense than did the 92 Oilers' Run and Shoot, but the 92 Bills' Defense was not as strong as the 92 Oilers' Defense.

Agreed !! I grew up here in houston ass a oilers/ bill fans..loved the kgun and run and shoot offenses... Huge jim kelly and moon fans..i can remember exactly wat the sunday i doing when the oilers had that historic collapse

That run and shoot offense doesn’t allow you to control time of possession and give the D a break. Moon’s teams never ran the ball to seal some of those leads he had in the playoffs.

@@phils9691 You're right; also in '97, 3 out of 4 teams in the divisional round were norris teams (the 49ers were the only outsider)

Also happened in 1998 in the AFC East. Jets won the division and the Bills, Dolphins, and Patriots were the wild card teams.

Look at it a little closer and you can see Carter not have control of the ball till later in the sequence,. By then his right foot was off the turf and he was out of bounds by that point. It was great call by the sideline official.

They barely won that game, too in the sense to give Dennis Allen his first postseason victory as Vikings HC. Randall Cunningham came off the bench for a injured, depleted Brad Johnson and scored 13 unanswered points in the last 2:00 minutes to pull off a major upset of NFC East winner New York. Even though Minnesota was solidly beaten the following week in Divisional Playoffs in SF, 38-22, I think the momentum, team chemistry and togetherness the offense showed with Cunningham at QB really carried over to the next season combined with the drafting of future HOF WR Randy Moss as their 1st round pick. I think the Vikings and whoever ended up at starting QB(Johnson or Randall) would've had a good season even if they'd chose somebody else, but the team finishes maybe at 10-6, 9-7, and loses again in the WC round. Drafting this generational athletic phenom of a WR that was such a deep threat and so-NFL ready is very rare and that propelled Vikes to that 15-1 record. Unfortunately, Dennis Green in 1998 showed his propensity to be conservative at inopportune times in-games similar to Andy Reid instead of trusting his team and Moss to win that NFCCG. Green got out-coached, out-manuevered by Dan Reeves' Falcons and their one, best shot at making a SB and I'm not sure even if they play in SB XXXIII vs. Broncos, they win because 1998 Vikings defense was a bit above-average at best, unlike its 2009 counterpart that played my Saints in NFCCG. The Vikings have always been sort of my back up team, second favorite team besides New Orleans, I have a ton of respect and admiration for the Minnesota Vikings organization, it's history, it's long litany of Pro Bowlers, HOF position players, HOF HC's, HOF GM's and even owners in Max Winter. This is the organization that gave the NFL Cris Carter, Randy Moss, Alan Page, Carl Eller, Paul Krause, HC Bud Grant, GM Jim Finks, Fred Cox, John Gilliam, Matt Blair, John Randle, Steve Hutchinson, Mick Tingelhof, Fran Tarkenton, HC Dennis Green, Jake Reed, Ahmad Rashad, Steve Jordan, Harrison Smith, Chad Greenway, Adrian Peterson. Most of those former players, HC's, GM's, owners are enshrined in Canton or will be once those who are currently still playing retire for good.

David Roberts The Vikings have alaways been overlooked over the years as a talented team but the underdog team that will never win the Super Bowl. As for 1998, i was dissapointed that we didn't get Broncos and Vikings in Super Bowl 33, you can thank Gary Anderson for that, as Randy Moss in 1998, you can tell he was going to be a threat, he was Cris Carter the " future " version of WR's in the NFL, espically at Marshall in one game he sprained his ankle and his teammates carried him and finished the game. That toughness 😊😊.
