1/10 Scale Element Ecto | Ep. 7 - (How to) Lower Your Ride Height (Rear) and Center of Gravity

In today's video, I am going to focus on lowering the center of gravity and ride height on my Element Ecto via a simple and quick mod.
One thing as FYI: This lowers the ride height at the rear by 1/2 inch. In order to lower the front to match the stance, the simplest method will be to use shock keys.

How do you lower the front ride height to match the rear?

The simplest method is to use shock keys. IERC has cheap ones for Element.

@Darren Nixon I put together a new video on options to lower the front. I went with simple mods. Although it doesn't drop the full 1/2" that the rear was dropped, it does drop the front a bit that the stance is much better. So go check it out.

@@vwagon5566 That 1/2" drop really helps with lowering the CG. Also take a look at different options to lower the front end as well. Few options to choose that suits your needs.

I can't wait to get my Ecto, had to put it on pre order. That's very similar to what we've been doing the the Original Enduro with moving the shock to the bottom location and a good idea.

Great video,still i play a lot with the rear set-up on my Ecto with spring and oil but not really fix on the ultimate set-up. I like this one with the inverted link mount but find the trailing arm way lower than the axle housing itself,,,,will tried it and see how it handle the rocks. Thank you.

I’m toying with lowering my stance on the ecto; however, do you loose some suspension travel? Wondering if it will affect the performance in a negative way? Did you find it performed better?

Thank you very much for the question. I say go do it. I find that after finding the right weight distribution, lowering the center of gravity is the next biggest performance improvement. The good thing about this hobby is that we can try to find the right adjustments that works for you, and you can always revert back if you don't like it. Good luck.

Did it not sure I’m a fan it sits so damn low I feel like I’m losing that ground clearance too. Might move the bottom part of the shock up to the top hole rather and leave the rest.. but I’ve done all the free mods you said to do on your page for my ecto !

You should give it a try. There is a reason why all the cheater rigs are Low CG chassis. By the way, the lowest point is the pumpkin of the axles. This change does not affect the clearance as that is dependent on wheels and tires, and since this change does not change those, the clearance are not affected.

@@dezertdestroyer7782 All good. I kind of figured as much. In reality, you are talking about belly ground clearance, and yes, you will loose some. However, the benefit of lower CG far outweighs the small loss of belly clearance. I am used to driving LCG cheater rig which has far lower belly clearance. The key is to properly use the placement of tires/wheels. One of the beauty of this hobby is to try something and if you don't like it, you can swap it back. Good luck.

Does this reduce ground clearance under the diff ? Also does this reduce flex if it reduces overall height ?

Thanks for your question. This mod does not reduce ground clearance under the diff as the axle height in comparison to the wheel stays the same. However, it does reduce rear axle articulation as the axle movement is somewhat reduced. That being said, the benefit of lowering the CG far outweighs the slight rear axle articulation in my opinion. Your rear shocker is sapose to be mounted to the outside of lower trail arms not sat inside it

That is true. I have the roll cage removed on mine as well. I believe in small changes all adding up.
