Fantastic result. I think that this really bridges the gap between the TOS and Refit and makes the refit look more like a REFIT rather than an all over new ship. Keep up the great videos! I look for them every day (not to worry I don't EXPECT them .. just hope for them!).

I got a kit for Voyager & Defiant. Was ready to do those after watching your vids. But this series popped up. Gonna make this my first ever Trek model kit build. I love this redesigned Enterprise almost as much as the show. Can't wait to do the lighting. Been a while since I've done electrical work. Should be fun.

This is model, that I might get a second version, with a original paint job without the Aztec decals. Maybe, they'll come out with the 1/350, that would be joy to build and light easily.

Jesus, they really went all-out on the Aztec'ing. The Enterprise redesign looks...interesting. A very industrial aesthetic. I'm still not convinced STD and SNW doesn't take place in the Kelvinverse, or some other non-Primeverse. Even Prodigy has me suspicious. I'm glad the lighting kits are becoming more user friendly. I've seen some lighting solutions that amount to a rat's nest of wires and other bizarre widgets that're only for expert modelers.

There have been a couple times I've built an entire kit, then wound up rebuilding it all over again because the decal layout was done so badly, and I couldn't foresee the problems. So I built the same kit all over again, and the experience of having struggled once allowed me to make choice cuts in the decal sheet to minimize the problems. I really wish more model companies would beta test kits and get feedback from builders to revamp prior to release.

Congratulations on doing a beautiful job putting that kit together. Though I still prefer the TOS design I would agree this is a worthy update that does in its way fit better into the ENTERPRISE/movie era continuity. My main issue with it is the pewter sheen and the heavy aztecing, which blurs and obscures the details and just makes the ship less attractive. Since this version is no more 'official' than the one that appeared in 79 episodes and currently sits in the Smithsonian, I'd love to see a modeler like yourself put one together with a Cage-era paint scheme, as this is supposed to be Pike's ship. That would be pretty cool.

I wouldn't hold your breath... You might get a garage kit of it, but the sheer size of a 1/350 model is going to be a big stumbling block. If the Round 2 kit is 1/1000, then this version of the Enterprise is a lot bigger than the TOS version. A back-of-an-envelope calculation puts the length of the 1/350 model at 1.26 m, or 49.7 inches. That's impressive, but are there enough people out there who would buy a kit that big to make it a commercial success? Maybe if Strange New Worlds is a huge hit...

@@tarkas566 Yea this was all before I realized how much bigger it was. If you go by the window size on this model you would think it was almost the same size as the original. Still maybe a 1:600 scale would be awesome. That would at least match my Revell Enterprise version. :)

The Polar Lights Klingon cruiser kit from the first film is 24" long. The detail is spectacular. You can even see where ILM put truck leaf springs on the impulse exhausts. There's a mistake in the decal directions, but it's fantastic. It also has a lighting kit.

I agree about the update Discovery did. To me, it looks like what the TOS team would have made if they could have. It looks like the original, if it were an actual ship and not a model built to be filmed for 1960's TV and viewed on screens so small that significant levels of detail would have just been wasted money. And yes, it looks more like a frame that could be refit to film version. The whole reason for writing in that refit was due to the fact that on the movie screen, audiences would be able to see all the detail. They wanted that first reveal to be awe inspiring, and they knew the TV model was not going to get that reaction on a movie screen.

Really nicely done and I just ordered the kit and all the accessories. My only concern is that the center point of the spinning dome seems a bit off center or was it due to camera angle? Now I hope they go back and upgrade some of their older kits to a version 2.0 with all the clear windows and lighting kits as it was pretty much the only thing that kept me from getting them (all the extra work to do you own lighting).

I like the DISO Enterprise, it fixed some problems I had with the 60's model. Not a big fan of the brushed metal look though, wish there was some color to the hull plating.

Hi, just gotta say I love the video and its so helpful. So i'v picked up this kit but iv only ever done 1 star trek kit (Moebius kelvin), and coming from japanese robot kits, fixing seams was a mess for me. I made my own aztec masks using frisket paper and it was not close to the level of detail that this one has. Would you say using these large decals was easier than using pre-cut vinyl masks or easier? Thanks!

Have to agree this is a great looking kit, and really makes me wish they would release the Discovery in this scale too. Only change I might consider is replacing the blueish LEDs with more pure white ones.

I may have a problem with the battery box in my lighting kit set… I don’t know if I need new AAs, but the kit won’t fully light up unless I’m holding the on/off switch.

What John Eaves has given us is a transitional design between the NX class and the Constitution class. As such, we've got what likely would've been the Daedalus class that would've been approved by Rick Berman. Therefore, should I get one, itr'll be the USS Essex, NCC-173.

if you want a kit of a transition between NX class and constitution class, the Polar lights NX-01 1/1000 kit comes with parts to create the NX-01 refit.

I would like info on going a non battery supply "wall wart" for powering up the kit requirements etc... over all some burgers in building but a really great kit. In watching the build It is so close in building methods to the USS Franklin (which is a wonderful build if you not done one)

The reason I like this ship is because I can see it slowly being modified into the TOS - ignoring the scale. Not that such a thing will happen, but this has a very 50's Futura look to it and the TOS, though more clunky, is a bit more 60's. You can see a plausible evolution. I do wish they had try to stay a little closer to the original, both inside and out, but I also realize at least some updating is required. Great Build and review. Quick Question: How do you make the registry decal appear to be flush with the rest of the model? What alternatives do I have to make that work?

micro-sol is a great help. Other than that just make sure it has a glossy finish before decaling it.

The model kit looks great, I haven't built a model since I was very young but I plan on picking up and building this set because I don't like how plastic-looking the Eaglemoss model looks. One criticism I have is the Aztec decals are darker than they should be, I like how subtle they are on the 1/2500 scale. Maybe that will be fixed when they are available. Is there a way to make them lighter?

You really can't make the decals lighter as they're ink trapped in a plastic. What you could do instead is paint the model a darker shade of silver to blend them in better by reducing the contrast. The kit in this video was painted with "Chrome Silver" but you could paint yours a "Nickel" or "Pewter". If you check out Trekworks videos, he painted his kit with Folk Art Pewter and it looks better in my opinion.

She looks great! I would like your opinion about paint schemes though. As much as I like the overall updated design, I’m not terribly keen on the metallic look. I was thinking of painting mine closer to the TOS colors but I worry that the aztek decals will stand out too much again against a light, flat gray. What do you think?

I bought the P.O.S. Polar Ligjts kit that came out and was DISGUSTED with what I got...it was little better than a gum machine prize. Having it as an 18" kit again as it was in 1968, weird as it was a damned good size and a must own piece. I am sold. Damned if the tapered nacelles don't conspire to make them look like they are sagging...another unintended feature of the original!
