The Re-GZ gets a bad rap in the anime and manga (where it gets more "screen time" and I love the manga for it) because it had the "bad luck" of going against strong machines but mostly because it had average pilots after Amuro and Kayra. Beltorchika and Chan didn't do this machine any service. Kayra on the other hand let her pride take over thinking she could end Axis with the Mega Beam Cannon on the Back Weapon System (which she totally could) save for the fact that she miscalculated her distance and strayed too far from the rest of the allies which in any realistic scenario would be a difficult situation for any ace without plot armor. Amuro, the genius that he is could totally hold his own save for the fact that metaphorically speaking, Amuro is an extremely powerful engine that's in a car(the Re-GZ) that can't support and handle all that power. I would say machines like these would do well with less OP aces like Shiro Amada. The Re-GZ was totally unfeasible as a mass production suit because of the production cost. But I'd say its still a better suit than the ReZEL in terms of firepower. The Re-GZ serves better as a fast attack MS whereas the ReZEL is a better support MS.

I've said for a while that the ReGZ could get a really nice life in the hands of a grunt pilot fighting other grunts. The issue, as you pointed out, is that the ReGZ kept running into stronger opponents, without a good pilot to back it up. I think that it's a good Middle ground between the Nu and the Jegan, and that with a better pilot at the wheel, the Jagd Dogas would be obliterated.

@@allenusison3124 maybe you mean more like a cursed unit. All the pilots of the re-gz met their demise after the ms got passed to each of them. The space coffin is the RB-79 Ball. Even though it was still a good frontline unit, the staggering number of casualties of Ball pilots just earned it that nickname. You go out in one and it becomes your coffin. The re-gz survived multiple sorties and was passed down.

At the end of the day, in the anime, Amuro pretty much dominated Gyunei in his Jagd Doga with the ReGz until he got bailed out by Char, and when Char says he can't possibly beat him in that mobile suit, Amuro just dashes forward and slices his beam rifle in half, lol. The Re-Gz came out of that 2v1 without a scratch. In fact, rewatching that scene is why I want this model kit. Amuro could make nearly any suit good from Zeta onwards, and even if she had been in the Nu Gundam, Kayra still would've probably gotten slapped by Gyunei because he was a newtype ace with funnels in an A tier suit. Also, Chan did this suit plenty of service, she destroyed Quess's mobile armor just using the missiles on the waist armor.

Something about the circa 2010 Char's Counterattack/Unicorn HGUCs are just... so NICE, it's probably my favorite era of HGUC. I love how they feel and go together, even tho many need some paint to show off their full potential (such as thrusterbell colors and vent highlights). The Re-GZ is by far one of my favorites from this era of HG's.

The latter has been long running up to the point where you can get an idea of the general quality of the kits from said era, can't say the same for model kits from hathaway's flash, or lack thereof.

There was literally the simplest solution out there for the Re-GZ transformation problem. Just slap a cockpit on the backpack and have it become a separate plane when it transforms. That way it can both cover you and it has a higher chance of making it back to you for a transformation.

The Re-GZ already felt good without the back weapons system. Honestly, if they just pushed the MS mode without the transforming frame and Waverider requirements, they would’ve had a pretty good limited production suit

In Super Robot Wars V the disposable backpack had its advantages. It was basically a scond health bar, if you get shot down in wave rider configuration you automatically convert into mobile suit and can continue to fight.

I can agree with your assessment. I didn't mind its lack of marking decals since I had the Nu Gundam already so I had a spare "A" decal to use. (As well as some spare EFSF and Londo Bell decals from my Jegans.) Overall, this is one of my favorite High Grades, but I can understand why it wouldn't appeal to someone who isn't a fan of the design.

I'm really curious how the MG Unicorn Re-GZ is. I like the HG, and I've heard mixed things on the MG seeing as it's so old. The Unicorn is like a 1.5 kit, and I wonder how much of an improvement it is in hand. The new head and joints look real good.

I modified the fuel tank to attach to the back backpack where the wings normally go and just turned the bws into a high performance backpack.

In Super Robot Wars. BWS translates to having an extra HP bar. For a fragile "real robot" that relies heavily on dodging and luck, Re-GZ isn't a bad unit at all.

I like zplus more than other z series, simply because it's transformation looks more reasonable and beautiful. Others either doesnt not look nice(regz) nor very fragile(Z has 2 very thin arms connect to the backpack).

That's the kind of thinking Anaheim should of had for this. Outside of the BWS being incredibly cheap how is discarding it every transformation in any way cheaper. Though I suppose with some work one could cross the designs of the Re-GZ BWS, Re-GZ Custom, and the Justice's Fatum-00 or IJ's Fatum-01.

I like Zeta, a lot. This is a reasonable conclusion, with both of the HGUCs standing beside each other. Zeta has a lot of busy colors, and this really fixed a lot of the form factor. The Delta Plus and Zeta Plus aren't bad takes, either, arguably better. I really like the pastel teal of the HGUC Re-GZ.

I have one, I love it. Would I recommend it, not really unless you really want one, than get it. Really though just get a RG Zeta or a Build Fighter Zeta if you want another 1/144 Zeta.

Okay, this kit is nice. Surprisingly nice color. Extremely robust and solid build. It can hold the best kneeling pose I've ever seen in a Gundam model, and the range of mobility in the ankles beats the pants off my GEP Zeta, and the arm joints are super good with long, sturdy pegs and an excellent shoulder joint. The frame/joints have this great dull gunmetal shine. It's a shame that it's held back by the lack of a thigh swivel. It would actually be an awesome kit if it had a thigh swivel.

In-Universe, I don't understand why they didn't go the Super Gundam route for the BWS, in fact, the Super Gundam can take a Pseudo wave rider form (G-Flyer) for increased speed in the air, so why not make an improved and refined version of the G-Defenser (Attaching the beam cannons on the side a la Ex-S Gundam or one of the Zeta Plus variants, as well as new and improved variants of its weapons) for the Re-Gz instead of making the BWS: a waste of material and money that the Re-Gz has to "Yeet" every time it needs to go into MS Mode that might as well been a typical space fighter

See the RE-GZ is a decent MS but the transformation make it pretty bad it pretty much lays down with a shield on it chest and plus it pretty much ejected it back pack so... You you are under attack in your fighter mode it pretty much flight or fight and also ejecting the backpack parts is not a good idea because enemy could take it and modify their forces or take it and make some notes out of it and make a weapon out of it for their forces

I honestly prefer the Re-GZ’s aesthetics to the Zeta. It’s too bad that the suit itself is shafted in every way. Seriously, the BWS should have been a support fighter-like an updated take on the G-Fighter. That would be useful as additional firepower on the battlefield, enhanced mobility for the Re-GZ when docked, and even rearmament mid-battle. So much wasted potential. Also, I found that the backpack on the MSIA figure easily disconnected, so that gave me the impression that it could easily be an escape craft like the Core Landers from G-Gundam. Another missed opportunity.

Just a constructive criticism mate: your panel-lining is a bit too thick on 1/144 HGs. And I honestly think you made a mess of the Re-GZ head with that thick lining. It reminds me of Dalong reviews. Maybe you can make it thinner in your future reviews to accentuate the kits better. Still love your videos though.

Never liked this MS, felt like a poor man's version of the Zeta, with a brick transformation not much better than the Scramble Gundam. In contrast the Lightning Gundam is the same idea but done right in design and transformation.
