American commerce is destroying itself with this layoff craze.

And corporations thought employees weren't loyal 5 to 10 years ago. Why would employees trust corporations at all now with all these layoffs?

When no one has jobs, who will buy their products? I've been unemployed for months and don't buy anything but necessities. All the advertising on this platform is useless because I don't have the income to be able to buy anything. Late stage capitalism is tanking itself. The system cannot be sustained.

Great question. Sorry to hear about your unemployment. It certainly is rough out there. Good luck out there. Thanks for the comment.

I am a tech worker myself in Canada. I am not surprised at what happened. US tech workers are consistently pay way higher than its western counterpart especially in big tech. The way the tech sector is setup in USA makes it hard to justify hiring junior or entry tech workers coz they are too expensive.

Its not that pay is higher in the USA. Its in the areas of big tech corporations headquarters that the pay is crazy high. A typical tech worker outside of the big tech gets pay the median income pay of about 70k including benefits.

Similar to what @jjred233 said, what you're referring to is the hype culture in big name tech. The illusion of engineers being that well compensated in the US tech job market is mostly used as a manipulation tactic to get people desperate to move on up to enroll in bootcamps and other programs(usually by current | ex-employees of big box companies)

what happens if someone is 45 experienced but laid off...last 3 years 1 million have been laid off in tech ..its not about reskilling ..its about capitalists hiring young folks as cheap labour and maximization of their profits

Great points. There aren't many places for mid career tech employees to go right now. Thanks for the comment.

Thank you for the great info. I totally agree with Udemy's move to layoff SF based employees, and hire others in lower cost areas. Why companies still base out of hyper-expensive, rundown, filthy and dangerous, SF is truly mind-boggling.

Right. The salaries seem high until you factor in the high cost of living in San Francisco. It's not like you make that salary (usually) in the mid west. Also, they don't want you to work remotely if they are giving you that salary. Thanks for your kind words and support.

I still buy. The reason are for things that I want to develop myself (Hobby game development, etc). I see the IT Industry in the US as being a dying industry and tech is going to become more of a hobby for me while I turn my attention towards retraining into a completely different industry. I'm also tired of running the rat race. I think I'm ready for a change, yes it will be less money, but at least I'll be employed in a more long term career while AI takes all the stuff I used to do.

If you're a U.S. based corporation, you must be required to fill all openings with U.S. based employees.

That would be nice. Or at least have some kind of cap of foreign workers. Because the real employment rate is so much higher than is being reported and there are so many American workers who are struggling to find a job that pays the bills.

Not surprised, I thought Udamy was a start up company, unless you are a you tube nerd or tech nerd Udamy is not really well known. I remember them from ads on you tube.

Lay off 20% of the employees and replace them with lower cost locations. This company is going down. I would buy more videos from udemy but I can't understand the speakers half the time. I always watch the sample videos before purchasing to make sure their English is clear enough for me to understand.

Thanks for sharing. I get that they want to save money on labor, but at least be doing some things to bring in more revenue. If you host video teaching, then the home audience needs to be able to understand the lecturers.

Capitalism is nowhere in the Bill Of Rights. We were to have free enterprise with a debt free currency. "The Federal Reserve System is not Federal; it has no reserves, and is not even a system at all. But rather an international criminal syndicate."- Eustace Mullins.
