Agreed! If I compare this to a steel built Dutch cruiser it is definitely a rip-off. Sure that might be single-engined, but talk to the wharf and you can get it double-engined. Used to sail a Grouwster Vlet just a bit smaller than this and it cost about the 200k that makes up what they charge for this and the million you mention.

A brand new 44 foot boat with a top speed of 30 knots and rang of 300? $1.2 is not a bad ask. Beautiful “gentleman’s” boat Nick, great tour. Thank you.
@swampy1234Ай бұрын
You can't be serious.
@adamblazek5412Ай бұрын
@@swampy1234 I am serious. $1.2 for a 44 for yacht new is not unheard of. A new Galeon 440 is $1.3. The difference I see is the materials being used. There is not a ton of GRP on this boat. I see more wood and other materials. As Nick said this boat is not about the bells and whistles, it is a gentleman’s boat. Also not everyone wants the most space or features, for some it is style and design, which has a cost involved as well. But we are all entitled to our opinions.

The gentleman's yacht style is quite appealing but sadly this Hylas M44 doesn't make the cut. Mulder and Palm Beach put Hylas to shame. It is rather hard to act excited about a rather plain unimpressive little yacht. Thank you for the tour Nick, it is really appreciated.

@hgghggukАй бұрын
pretty sure that was there for a quick cuppa lol I'm sure thats not its normal placement
@garethevans9789Ай бұрын
Looks like they planned to have the socket above/ near the sink, but that's a big no-no regulation-wise (the hanging kettle lead is also a problem!) I've noticed that since a lot more effort is taken in the interior design. There's a disconnect between the engineers and the designers, so things like the above are happening. It wouldn't take much effort to put a socket above the counter (not above the sink). It's funny, I bet the builders/ carpenters hated the boat when they couldn't find a socket. Gotta love bureaucracy! You can never have enough sockets (just looked at my kitchen and I have SIX devices plugged in, not including the fridge and washing machine).
@colinritchie1510Ай бұрын
Thanks for the tour, Nick. It's a nice little boat but as many have commented, it seems quite expensive compared with your recent tour of the Beneteau trawler. I do like this style of boat, but I would probably look at a Duchy 45 from Cockwells if I had that sort of money to spend. There's a lot to like about this Hylas, but it just doesn't seem to exhibit the quality one expects at that price. Yes, a Bentley costs more than a Ford, but you can see why... Whatever, a nice wee tour!
@lapsedluddite3381Ай бұрын
Oh, wouldn't it be lovely if Nick did a tour of a Duchy 45!
@lapsedluddite3381Ай бұрын
Comparing this boat to the Beneteau Trawler is like comparing apples and oranges, they are completely different sorts of boats, designed for very different use, and aimed at very different markets. I much prefer the Hylas, and would not hesitate to take her out in conditions I wouldn't consider taking the Beneteau in - with all that glass and windage, it would more of an adventure than I care to experience in a motorboat.

Nick, you Did well not to say at any point “you can have this or a two year old princess 58” As always, great tour

A bit of history behind this boat. These were first made by Salthouse in New Zealand in the early 2000s, back then these were the bees knees - fast, efficient, seaworthy, and extremely well built inside and out. They were leagues ahead of European mass produced boats in pretty much every way except price. At some point Salthouse moved production to Taiwan (Hylas yard) to save on production costs, though now it looks like they are taking the price to the extreme without adding any extra innovation or updated styling since the boats were first designed 20 years ago. Kind of a shame as at a more reasonable price these would be such a nice alternative to plastic-fantastic French boats where the main design brief is just to fit as many cabins as possible.

Hylas are top quality boats, very well made, and supremely capable to handle rough weather. She's designed to cater to the well to do gentleman from old money roots, the sort of man who wears his grandfather's WWII era Rolex Oyster Royal with his rumpled khakis and Egyptian cotton shirts, for an afternoon's outing with (one of the) boats. I love this boat, she's an old school "class act", unlike some of the other, more cheaply made boats she's being compared to in the comments.

Hi Nick, as always you do a great job, and you are honest to the boat, and showing us around in great manner.... This boat seems to be a boat from yesterday, especially if you compare it to the previous video you did of the Swift Trawler 54 that is priced the same - what a difference, and the Swift trawler is the boat of tomorrow.... This boat seems very pricy especially in comparison with the ST54... and a bit dated, and also very basic..... But you - you did as you always do! Give us - the screen sailors - a good walkthrough, thank you Nick - oh, and BTW - had to edit my comment.... just reviewed your Fairline Targa 40 video again - and now there is NO DOUBT! This boat is priced in a way that is not accommodating current marked... just look at the innovation of both the ST54 and the FT 40... the FT40 is HALF the price of this one.... and has so much quality and innovation, and the ST54 is so much more of a boat.... - but again - you did your part - you brought us yet another fine boat

I like this vessel, it's simple, to the point and functional. However at that price, I couldnt justify it. Something like the Jeanneau Merry Fisher 1295 coupe, which I would suggest is the competition for this, is around £400,000 (depending on spec)

I have zero boat knowledge other than what I've learned from watching all of your videos so I may be speaking out of turn, but this seems like a lot of money for the standard of the interior etc. For example the Swift 54 is in the same price range and that seemed a heck of a boat for the money

It's no Gulf Craft Majesty 175 but Mr Burnham sir for a "Gentleman's Motor Boat" it's alright but I have to say for a "Gentleman's Motor Boat" although 7ft shorter I'd rather have a Dale Classic 37, arguably one of the sexiest boats around the 40ft range of aII the tours on Aquaholic so far. Nick imagine if they did a Dale Classic based on the 45 hull of the other style boat you showed at the end of the 37 film which I thought about at the time 🤔 Anyway sir as always all the best from Cornwall 🤗👍🖖

What's the draft on this??? Personally I LOVE the lines on this boat, its pretty damn sexy. All that glass and spectacular views make this a great "England/Denmark/Baltic sea" type of boat, where you feel like you are outside but actually inside away from the cruddy cold/damp weather lol. Also love the simplicity of things like no upper helm to get wet/short out, sunroofs are manual/don't break. But yeah price is pretty damn steep, doesn't seem like that great of a deal compared to a bigger, used Princess.

I don’t think they are going to be successful in the U.S. market with the current design but there are some nice aspects of practicality. A river cruiser with a giro stabilisers, what a mixed bag. There's a scale of economy where spending more money on tech on small boats is hard to justify (for instance: small catermarans still need two engines). If the owner is happy I guess that's all that matters.
