With the stand pedals, instead of shaping them to the haul, just cut some spacers from black 1/4” hobby foam. Place them between the wood pedals and the hull and when you tighten it down will conform to the shape. Looks clean and saves some time.

Hi Ben and Nora. Love the look of the base and its robust supports. I also like the Modelboatguy’s solution which I will attempt whereby he replicates the wooden single supports the real ship used in the Thompson Dock.

Another very informative video. Thank you for the tips about the superstructure. I just got notification today that my PE sets have shipped from Woody’s. I quite like the way you have done your stand. It may not be the “Normal Brass Stand” but this does add a little variety.

Hello Ben & Nora, just about ready to start in on my Titanic build again, was hoping to knock a lot off this winter, but a lot has happened here on the home front, where I needed to purchase a whole new gas burner for my home heating, needless to say I had to spend many dollars & a few cold nights next to a space heater, until the burner was installed. "Happy to say" that a warm house, is a very nice place to come home to, sad to say that this put a damper on my build, but spring is com'n and Ill be back with a vengeance...lol. Anyway I like the stand but would like to add that maybe adding rubber washers on top of those wooden supports would conform to the shape of the hull & give the hull a gentle cushion to sit upon once tightened, this may also limit any cracking to the hull & offer the joints room to flex somewhat if accidentally bumped. 😜👍 Btw I'm still interested in a T-shirt

Personally I like the base. One comment suggests locktite no beuno if you do I suggest using blue not red but you probably knew that already. I'm looking forward to seeing the tee's. I'm considering building one of these ships but I'm struggling with the cost involved we'll see. One other thing I like that you explain everything in detail and the dad jokes. Keep up the good work! The Batmobile is pretty cool also 😎

I just ordered a couple of 1/350 German destroyers. Z25 and Z44. Given their small size, they're the same price as a 1/700 battleship. I also got the 1/350 Indianapolis (the 1945 version).

Hi Ben just want to make sure I understand this correctly... You're saying that if you don't remove roughly .5mm of thickness off the top edge of the shapeways plastic PE support structures that when all decks are sitting the A-Deck promenade PE pieces will not sit perfectly vertical? The wider width of the the shapeways support structure will not match the narrower width of the boat deck? This causes the PE piece to sit slanted inward at the top where it touches the boat deck? Just trying to make sure I fully understand. Love the video thankyou sir so much for doing these. Looking forward to seeing more progress on the batmobile. Thanks!
@TheMidwestModelShop2 жыл бұрын
On my ship, that is correct. Please note, the only way to accurately measure at the A deck level, in once you’ve attached those decks. I’m saying on my ship* because it is just 0.5mm per side. You’re mileage may vary.
@philipcasa73792 жыл бұрын
Hi Ben your ship model looks awesome! I have a question do I need those shapeways support structures to use Woody's model shop photo etch? I thought the photo etch set was a complete detail kit that was made to simply be applied? Does the photo etch set from Woody's model shop recommend that I purchase the shapeways support structure bulkheads? I mean if you have to use a wood plane on a plastic ship model that looks very labor-intensive not a lot of fun! . My other question to you is is all that extra work and money/ photo etch going to make that much of a difference once the model is painted? Thank you for your help in this matter
@TheMidwestModelShop2 жыл бұрын
You do not need to buy the shapeways parts. You can use the kit parts, as shown in the video. IF you buy the shapeways parts, you have to use the PE hull pieces from Mini Brass. That’s why those Shapeways parts were originally created. You’ll totally see the difference once everything is painted. There’s more detail and it’s accurate. You don’t have to use a wood plane, I just did because it was easy. (If your wood planes are razor sharp, and they should be, working the plane is easy.) I finished both sides in about 10 minutes.

Ben and Nora, I just thought I would present an idea to you before you get along too far in your excellent build, regarding the color of the 'funnels'. I hope it will be received in the good spirit in which it is presented. Being a Titanic buff for over 30 years and now on my third build, I have discovered many opinions regarding what would be the regarded as the 'correct' color of the funnels and thusly how to accurately reproduce them in a model. Being a stickler for accuracy, I can only refer to the book 'Titanic the Ship Magnificent' (TTMS) and the color paintings that Ken Marshall has produced, along with the Minicraft version of the vessel built by Art Braunsweiger (one of the authors of TTMS). Referenced as color: 'White Star Buff'. My solution (having done extensive color matching) is as follows. I purchased a mailing envelope from my local Post Office (buff color), scrutinized the color (on a calibrated computer monitor) and had it color matched at my local hardware store's paint matching machine. The result in flat latex wall colors, compared to Mr. Marshalls' paintings were 'spot on' and have produced very accurate and pleasing results. Mind you, that this color can also be reproduced in various enamel paints by taking your 'sample' color to an auto body shop who can also 'scan' and match the same with a very high degree of accuracy. The same technique was used in my paint matching for the Fore and Aft well deck bulkhead colors. Regards to all and hope this helps.
