My mom only gets SSI for her income and has never filed has to this year. I am helping her file her first tax return in 25 years. As of right now, you have to file a simple tax return for 2018 or 2019 to get the $1200 stimulus check. SS, SSDI and SSI recipients typically do not file taxes as they often owe no taxes. But, you will have to file to get the check. That is as of now.

They do not say that this check is coming off your next 2020 tax. Its an advanced payment off your 2020 tax return. So if you cash your check they will deduct it when you file your next 2020 income tax. Just seen a web site thats explains this. Its a tax credit they expect for you to pay it back. But my guess is that large corporations wont have to pay it back.
