1.21 - Final Verdict

Wanted to continue my ranking now that Minecraft 1.21 Tricky Trials update is out, looking at stuff that wasn't out at the time like the discs, advancements and other additions and changes.
I also wanted to see how a lesser edited video goes, even though my videos are already quite calm editing-wise anyways, so let me know what you all think!

The last cave sound was definitely an end portal opening. And that other one really does sound similar to those “echoing void vwoops” noises in the dlc

It’s be cool if we got Xatrix doing an unscripted tour of different locations in Minecraft and explaining the lore behind them (ex: the ancient cities, desert temples, mansions, etc.). Even if we do have the lore videos, I think it’d just be kinda funny to have a live interaction in locations between him trying to survive while giving us info on their significance to the Minecraft story

I really like it how sometimes in videos you make secret "blink and you'll miss it" messages in sga, I wasted an hour of my life a few months back memorizing every rune. And it is really fun to read them by slowing the video down and translating it. :D

I'm kinda treating this update like a little under the level of the village and pillage update. It's a pretty nice update that they'll likely add upon for future updates like new rooms and maybe revamping the older structures to use the vaults and stuff

Definitely, village and pillage was a massive, and great overhaul of an existing part of the game, so it has to be ranked high. Tricky Trials however, added completely new amazing content, mostly separate from preexisting things. It’s hard to compare it to village and pillage as they were both fundamentally different updates, but yeah I agree. And hey, village and pillage was a top tier update, it being just a bit under doesn’t make it bad by any means. I am beyond stoked that mojang is taking risks again.

to be honest I'd actually put it a bit over the village and pillage update. I really really like village and pillage on paper and it's made the game so much more convenient with the new useful blocks, but also it added a ton of huge gaping flaws into the game which break other things. For instance, mending is ridiculously easy to obtain with enough patience, raids and their farms make woodland mansions nearly useless and give you unlimited cash, and iron golem farms take much less effort (I think? I can't really remember but they made it a lot lees work to get a golem to spawn in general). I like the update but it definitely needs revisiting like with 1.9

thanks for the bit with the part with the new cave sounds. I have been wanting to hear those sometime but never found the audio clip on the wiki. those are some scary sounds. i would have freaked out if i heard those without knowing about them first

When you ride something in survival and go through the portal, you also go through immediatly. The datapack changes allow you to literaly change gravity, size of mobs, and new enchantments, etc.

1.21 is a really great update, and an amazing step in the right direction.

I haven't dived into much of the datapack changes but some of the things that are new are, custom music discs and paintings when you add a resource pack to join it, custom enchantments, nbt changes and some more that i forgot

Adding trial spawner biome and dimension variants would be epic Ngl. Imagine changing the designs of both the end city, nether fort and maybe a new Piglin structure to host more material. Perhaps a large floating end structure that hosts the most difficult trial of all that is as rare as the end ship.

I love how experimental this update was! This update has a lot of interesting stuff like the breeze, bogged, wolf armor, and especially the mace! The way they handled these features was pretty great, especially the ominous bottles. I love the idea of a singular effect changing the experience of the trial chambers! Overall, this update is pretty great and if I were to rank it, it gets a solid 8/10! It’s definitely a cut above 1.20 (I don’t hate it, but it’s definitely not the best. Maybe a 5 and 1/2 out of 10, a 6 at most)

I personally think that the tricky trails ost is as good as the discs, specially songs like featherfall and watcher that are very relaxing songs

when i did a video on how to get the mace in minecraft, it took me 5 entire trial chambers to get one. ever since then i have gotten it first try when trying to get things like the music disc and the flow armor trim
