I want to say thank you so much for doing this model. I was in the Sunliners back in 2004 and did 2 deployments with them when we still used the legacy hornets. Two months before they switched over to the supers, I went shore duty.

Wow, thank you so much for your comment. Always kind of special when someone, who worked with the real thing (or with an older version) appreciate my work. Hope you stay with me on my channel, I got more birds to build (actually, that’s what I like most). Starting soon on this channel will be a Su-35 build, but after that comes a f-16 in maintenance mode (show a lot of the insides) along with a viper helicopter, including an airfield and a lot of maintenance crew members working on both machines (yes, that’s more a diorama again), a f-22 (difficult paint job for scale modelers) and a f-14 in 1/32 scale (huge, huge, huge!). That’s probably a preview for the next two years ☺️

@@GeneralPelleScaleModels I can't wait to see the next few builds. Funny you said an F-14. On my last deployment I got to see the very last Tomcat launch off our flight deck for the last time ever. It was a memory I will never forget.

@@corysmith6990 I feel with you. It was such a lovely bird and for me, the airplane of my childhood (well, guess we have to blame Tom cruise for that). Unfortunately never saw one in reality (but f-18 are flying over my home from time to time at least…). And more funny: i never build one and never build a plane in that scale, so that was a easy choice (it’s a f-14b btw)

Look who we have here lol. This guy did a great job at making this look like the real 200. If I remember correctly, didn't they tell Corrosion not to paint it up, but Sam didn't care, and did it anyway on his own time?

The landing gear bays even of aircraft that have been in use for a long time are usually kept clean, as this is the only way to find even small oil leaks in the hydraulics. Otherwise a top result. Subscribed to the channel!

Good point! Still have 4 birds laying around here, will definitely remember this the next time, but after my current diorama I’m probably gone build my first tank (also on a diorama) and then comes the next airplane(s). Thanks for the subscription, really appreciate that.

Yeah man, I don't know much about building models, but this looks exactly like 200. I fell off that jet once on deployment. Hit the flight deck like a sack of potatoes during flight schedule. One of my buddies put the ladder up while I was in the cockpit setting it up for the next flight lol.

An overall very good build. Great paint and weathering 👍 However I’m confused by the extra you put inside nose lg bay. If you check, you would never see cables crossing-over a bay like that in such of modern A/C.
@GeneralPelleScaleModels

Thanks mate. Yes, that’s true. To be honest I didn’t use any reference when I did that bird, and just trying out some things as I still was quite new to this hobby. So please don’t be confused, it’s just not correct what I did there. Nevertheless I made my homework for my next bird (and messed up the decals, so it’s again, somehow unrealistic).

That is a great work. I keeping watch it over and over again when building my MENG F18E. I do have a question here. The AK varnish should be acrylic, but the Dark Wash from Ammo Mig is enamel. Will dark wash remove the paint under it?
@GeneralPelleScaleModels
@GeneralPelleScaleModels Жыл бұрын
Thanks. Nice that my video did come in handy. I have the Meng kit in my stash, looking forward to build it. If you don’t apply the varnish before applying the wash it will harm the acrylic paint under it (or better, the enamel thinner will remove it). So the varnish protect the paint underneath (but still be careful, varnish is not some magical stuff, it can also be damaged when using to much wash or enamel thinner). If you use acrylic colors, an acrylic varnish (like the one from AK) is needed. Liquer varnish will harm acrylic colors, too. But if you used liquer based colors as main coat, you should also use an liquer based varnish.

First of all well done and thanks for sharing your good work. If you don't mind can I ask you what needle size you use?
@GeneralPelleScaleModels
@GeneralPelleScaleModels 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the compliment. I use a 0,5 mm for primer, varnish or when doing larger areas. For example the black primer used here is sone with that needle, without the need of thinning the primer. For smaller parts / areas I use a 0,2 mm needle, in this video I use it for all the small parts and the main coat, it’s much more easier to control the Color layers with that needle. The 0.2 is inside a Harder & Steenbeck Evolution and the 0.5 in a Iwata Revolution HP-CR.

Great build! Thank you for video! How are you able to take this shoots? You have camera on chest? :)
@GeneralPelleScaleModels
@GeneralPelleScaleModels 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking. Well, I’m using my phone to record the videos (iPhone x). I’ve a gimble, a small table tripod and a tripod / selfie stick to hold the cellphone while recording. Of course, that’s an extra challenge with that equipment in front of my noose. I recently bought a one legged overhead holder for my phone, that should make more easier to see the objects I’m actually working on and allows some new camera angles. But that piece didn’t arrive yet in the time of writing. Honestly a amateurish setup. I might settle for a real camera and proper tripods in the future (but that stuff isn’t cheap) or at least a cellphone with a better camera (some shoots are simple not possible).

How did you go about masking the jagged edge of the black layer on the nose? Did you use a template to cut the mask?
@GeneralPelleScaleModels
@GeneralPelleScaleModels 3 жыл бұрын
Well, this kit comes indeed with some masking tapes, but only for the canopy and wheels. I've done the mask for the nose by myself with the help of a triangle ruler and with a sense of proportion (and a bit of try-and-error).

Looks awesome, but part of me just doesn’t dig the teeth on a hornet. Maybe it’s because I’m a cat person, in my opinion they just look better on tomcats and don’t belong on hornets. Warthogs get a pass.

I recently got the tamiya f-4 kit, which also includes a shark decal variant (I think Someone else on KZbin build it already with that decals). I was honestly a bit afraid to put them on the f-18, but they come down on the first touch (lucky me). The look, well I like it on the f-18, looks quite aggressive, but I get your point. The f-14 is much more massive.
