This part has it all: Great ideas, failures and a happy ending!
The car now is powered by a Toyan L400 and TP Power 4070 brushless motor.
You see the transmission build, drivetrain and even some spinning wheels.
I can not wait to fire the Nitro engine and really start rippinˋ...
Thanks for watching !
The Toyan engine can be found here:

@@timsane If I may rearrange your words. It is not sad that you are a perfectionist. The fact that it sometimes makes life complicated? Ok. But, it is obvious that you do not work from a blueprint. You are not recreating someone else's idea. In building construction it is called "fastrack". Design as you build. Make it up as you go along. Tim, if you settle for, good enough? I brought this idea up a few years ago; about how to integrate a electric motor to my existing gas power driven car. I have a 1987 Porsche 944, with a 2.5L 4-cyl/8-valve motor that only produces about 148HP total, but only (roughly) 128 at the wheel. However, instead of upgrading the motor to a larger block; like an 3.0L 16-valve, or better an LS2, I thought of using an electric motor tied to the drive shaft to assist in acceleration. I also thought of adding a electric flywheel to do the same. However, the gas motor will do most of the power, the electric motor is only used as a power assist.

I would love that too, but that would add weight, needs space and it will fail due to the engine power (wait until it gets 20psi of boost 😉) So I decided against it. The brushless motor helps to get the car off the line FAST and then the nitro will start screaming. Thank you for watching and your comment!

Hi, I have just purchased the Toyan FS - L400 engine kit. I have downloaded the full build manual and before starting assembly I want to ensure that I have all the necessary tools for building it as good as possible. I am a professional engineer and recognise the importance of using the correct tools. Having read through the build manual I cannot find any information on what the torque settings are for the more critical bolts. ie. Head bolts, Conrod caps etc. Is it possible to find out the torque settings of these various fasteners? I would then be able to make sure I have a suitable small torque wrench that is accurate enough and within the range for use on this engine. Also, I have looked at ‘Stirling Kits’ online catalogue to try and find a suitable chassis to fit the engine to. I can only find one - and it looks very ugly and basic, more like a lorry chassis! I was looking for something a lot more exciting, more like the type used on a Drifter. Can anyone recommend a suitable purpose made chassis, or maybe one than can be modified relatively easily so that this engine will fit.

Hey, what seems to be complicated is very easy to do: Brushless system is programmed to a specific setting ( by the way I am running a soft setting here... it will be much crazier later) then the nitro engine gets dialed in with extra servos and linkage. When I let of the throttle the nitro rpm drops, clutch disengages and only the motor will be spun further. Then I can even use the motor to brake the rear axle independently from the (hydraulic disc brake) front axle. I will show how it works in another episode. Thank you for watching and being part of our small community.

Glad to see I am not the only one who messes up and spends time re-doing things due to a bad calculation. I have to ask why an electric motor along with the internal combustion engine do you think the engine is not powerful enough on its own, at first I thought it was going to be for reverse motion. What RPM does the 5th scale clutch bite, as you can get many different springs from five thousand and nine thousand five hundred RPM there are a few out there which are adjustable along with different materials for the clutch pads, I have tried the MIP/MOD five shoe and the Turtle Racing, FID and Area RC clutch's and have just found a three shoe one which I am hoping will combat my problem of excessive wear due to running big CC engines in my 5th scale offroad trucks and buggies from 32cc through to 50cc and still hunting the perfect clutch set up, looking forward to seeing more of this build and have just subscribed and will be watching your back catalogue of builds to watch while waiting for parts to arrive from my overworked courier service.

Hey Nick, first of all I am concerned that the nitro engine might be to weak for this big car. Therefore I added the hidden „assistance“. Second, I installed 8k springs because the engine idles at about 5.5k and redlines at about 13k. At least in theory 8k feels like a good starting point. But I think i will find out shortly..... Thanks for subscribing, welcome onboard!

Hi, eins vorab...

Can you recommend a motor that is submersible that I could use for a kayak project. Total out of water weight will be less than 350lb.

That is difficult since i have no idea what your goal is: 4mph? 30? How much do you want to spend on batteries? This project can be 200 or 2000 USD 😱

@@timsane I'd say 10mph would be plenty fast enough for up to 5min bursts, but a 5mph sustained for up to 45min of distance travel is for sure needed. As far as budget I'd probably spend up to 1k usd for motors and electronics. Can diameter Can be as small as 2.5in. Hopefully this is enough info. Sorry for being so vague initially.

Hey Joseph, no problem. Take a look into the Turnigy SK8 series motors. They are low kv, powerfull and very affordable. I can imagine two of them will work beyond your expectations and do not need a geardrive or transmission. Thanks for watching

Like before watching!! Edit: looks very nice!! Are the brushless motor and the toyan engine going to work always at the same time?
@timsane

Yes they will when I apply throttle. during braking the Toyan will idle, disc brakes will grab in the front while the brushless brakes the rear wheels.
