When my daughter was about 3 she was playing on the floor and somehow got a twig in her ear. We have a wood stove so little bits of bark and wood in that area of the floor is common. My husband and I were both in the room so we know she didn't put it in her ear deliberately. It was simply a fluke that it made its way down in the canal. I could see the tip, but she wouldn't let me near it. So we took her to ER. The triage nurse removed it in a matter of seconds with forceps. She was seen by a FNP to check on whether the wood damaged her ear. Luckily, it had only scratched the canal itself, and not damaged the eardrum.
