John just finished coppering the hull using your technique....went beautifully! I made strips of 6 tiles and cut them shorter when I needed to make angles. I was apprehensive, but your help made this work out great. Thanks for the videos and answering my questions.

Nice work John , I am working on the idea to build a DD , as you know most models have no tin canning detail going on this the tech term for skin that is stressed due to forces on the frames and longerons this creates a depression on the skin on the FWD and AFT sections of the ship . The Idea is to build a hard foam hull cover in thin glass fiber, frames and longerons will be represented using thin cut Alu tape . The plating is done with the tape also you . Between the frames you use a cotton ear budds and make the skin depression. its at the experiment stage and needs some fine tuning but the effect seems to work .

Some have said to put a coat of varnish on the wood to make the tape adhere better - you didn't mention that , so were you happy with the tiles sticking directly to untreated wood?

Hi I think the tiles stick better to untreated unvarnished wood.

@@Johnbuildsiconic Thanks. I copied your jig and am ready to go! I used a 2X5mm plank set on top of the tape in the jig to guide the pounce wheel along the tape lengthwise so I didn't have to hold a ruler for that step. Seemed to work well. With your help I am confident in starting this step. Thanjs again.

The copper plates are of course part of the history of this ship. As a model, however, it certainly looks nicer when the hull is made of beautifully varnished fine wood.

Hi it’s been almost a year of constant moving of the hull and I still haven’t had any tiles come off

John would there be any reason to not copper tile the hull before installing cannons on main deck in issue 50? I am worried they might be dislodged as I work on coppering the hull. Can I copper the hull before stage 50 or will there be issues later? Thanks for your posts - your help is really appreciated!

Hi dale.there is no reason why you can’t copper the hull now. And if i was building this again I would have coppered the hull beforehand

Hi tomasz. Thank you for your comment I’ve used two 30 meter rolls, rolls cost £9.99 each. So £20 to copper the full hull
