Really enjoy your vids. My next buggies will be Mayako. My Tekno 2.0 buggies required dremeling the spindles for more steering angle, which weakened an already-vulnerable part. Also, they have too many crevices that are hard to clean (the deep webbing on the arms, for example).

I've always been of the opinion that tires and then differential action are number one and number two when it comes to making a car handle and steer where you want it to go.

Without knowing what vehicle you’re driving and under what track conditions, JQ’s answer is as close as anyone culled get you. Perhaps a more useful answer though, would have been to use whatever the instruction manual advises because every single vehicle from every brand is by necessity going to have (sometimes very) different home base, as in what oils to start with. You can only go from there. What if your car needs 7-5-2 but what if JQ, or anyone else, said to start with 10-7-4? That would be WAY off, so hopefully now you can understand that to get the information you’re wanting, first you must ask the correct question. Most people don’t want to help those who can’t be bothered helping themselves first, and without you providing the required details of your track, vehicle, etc, they have to go back and forth asking you something, getting an answer (which may or may not include all the info they need), so as the saying goes, it takes two to tango. Just my 2cents worth.

@@aaronperelmuter8433 What i should say more mate, diffs are diffs even if you drive a chub or a pb car. Been looking several setups for high grip tracks varying from close to book oils to for example 20k-30k-10k, thats why i asked what's actually a thicker oil jq mentions and he answered. I was experiencing inside front wheel lift-spinning and i fixed it with another roll bar. Mayako is doing good job when ordering kits, putting together parts for chosen purpose.

At 1:53 you mention that while shocks help us with transfer loads, differentials do the same for the transfer of drive. I can’t believe you missed that perfect line, instead you said that differentials help us control power delivery. Seriously? Still can’t believe you completely missed that one. Anyway, I always enjoy listening to the way you explain various aspects of handling, geometry, setup, etc. I already know all this as I raced motocross for nearly 15 years and now rc for almost as long but I still dig the way you explain things and the way your mind at a conceptual level works - very similar to me, hence why I enjoy your explanations as they’re so similar to how I explain these kind of concepts to people. Keep up the great work JQ. I miss the village idiot. 😂 🤪

Why not use torsen diffs in the front and center? Back in the early 2000 is what I used to run on my hyper 7 pro.
@CraigOverend
@CraigOverend 2 жыл бұрын
I think one reason not to use torsen is when turning on bumpy surfaces when a wheel diffs out and the torsen instantly locks because of the directional worm gears. Also the licensing, weight, complexity, cost. I could see a benefit on smooth tracks like carpet, and I believe this is why we see some using XRAY active diffs that are not instant locking torsens. You may be able to get similar effect to an active diff by using shear thinning or thickening fluids depending on the action you want. For example when both wheels are the same speed, the spider gears are stationary (no fluid shearing), and as soon as wheels experience a difference in speed, the spider gears churn (fluid shearing). Silicone oils are shear thinning.

I don’t think Torsen diffs have ever been used in any international level off-road racing vehicles/race series for many of the reasons explained by Craig. Also, Losi used to sell some lsd gearsets for the 8ight and even had different ramp angle rings available so that one could alter if the lockup came on early or late by virtue of the different ramp angles. This could be altered for when under load from drive torque or brake torque. But ye, Torsen diffs have never been anything too much more than a gimmick really. Ever wonder why no WRC team, no major DTM, V8 Supercars, BTCC, etc. teams have ever been known to run them and win consistently with them? No? Well, the very fact that in all those myriad race classes no one uses them and certainly no championship winners, says it all, imho.

To bad the didn't have a diff that was able to lock up when in a straight line like possy so you have the best of both worlds or a manual lock up on demand like the electric diff's on a street car so you can control it from diffing out on demand. 👍👌✌️💯🍻
