I make a lot of helmets and I needed somewhere to store them/hang them up to show them off because they were just taking up a ton of room in my workshop and getting beat up from being moved from one surface to another! I looked at what it would cost to buy some helmet wall mounts for them and I when I saw that they were at least $20 each the cost added up too quickly for how many helmets I had. So I set out to make my own, having worked with PVC pipe before to make bows and swords and other cosplay props I thought that would be a great way to go and came up with this awesome DIY helmet stand design and it worked perfectly!! I recently made a bunch more helmets and needed some more stands so I thought this would be the perfect time to share how I did it with you so you can make some of your own!!! :)
I hope this is helpful for you and please tag me if you use this and make some of your own I would love to see how it turned out for you!! :)
I have used this for mostly foam helmets but I bet you could use it for motorcycle or other helmets as well you may just need to increase the size of PVC pipe you use and increase the mount length a little to compensate for the weight.
Enjoy and Cosplay On, My Friend!!

Did you end up doing this? I'm worried about the weight. Motorcycle helmets weigh quite a bit more than cosplay ones and I don't want to come home with helmets scattered around on the floor

I'm thinking about doing this for wigs!! I think it'll definitely work if I modify the foam top for cushioning, I think the play might be to make it bigger for a head shape.

Hi, great video. I am thinking of using this method for motorcycle helmets. They are about 4 pounds. Will this hold? Thanks in advance
@CosplayApprentice
@CosplayApprentice Жыл бұрын
Yeah, they are pretty sturdy. I only used 1/2”pvc pipe but for heavier items you could easily use 3/4” or even go up to 1” pvc pipe to make sure. Definitely way cheaper than motorcycle helmet holders online, I couldn’t believe how much they were :/

For most foam a hair dryer is not hot enough to get a good shape in foam. I have links to a good prices heat gun on Amazon that works well if you are interested I can send you the link. :)

Why not use a 90 degree fitting instead of bending the pipe?

Really cool, but why not jut use an elbow instead of heating and bending? Fittings and PVC glue are cheap and the result would be stronger and more aesthetic.
@CosplayApprentice
@CosplayApprentice 3 жыл бұрын
You could totally do that as well! :). Not sure why I didn't use fittings other than I think maybe I wanted to disguise it a bit more as metal or something and often pipe fitting are a tell-tell PVC pipe thing, so it was really probably just more of the aesthetic that I was going for. Great idea though on the fittings :)
