I started losing weight in June due to very high blood pressure. Initially I just went with calorie deficiency but I soon hit a weight that I could not get below no matter how hard I tried. That's when I switch to 16:8 IF and even though I continued to loose weigh it wasn't nearly as dramatic. I then added a healthy (ideal) HFLC Keto on top of the 16:8 IF and now my weight is in free fall. I feel great and my blood pressure is almost normal with no meds.

I’m italian and have followed a mediterran diet since little. It involves a huge good variety but also lots of carbs pasta pizza etc I must admit I always been overweight then started doing sport and balanced most of it but always had that yo yo effect and because I enjoy food luckily I also filled in amazing fish meat and all the vegetables and fruits. I have removed Carbs totally from my diet since 2 weeks and intend to go forward with it and managing to not eat after 5 pm. I am doing amazingly including at least 4 hours if I can 6 of cardio at week with only one or two meals per day. My personal shock and realization of how bad are carbs was eating two pizzas and still feeling hungry and craving for more. Thank you doctor!!! Amazing channel and great clear dedicated explanations.

I did a strict keto and healthy eating period for about a year, two years ago. I lost 35 lbs and kept it off simply by being more aware of what I was consuming while not limiting carbs. I'm doing another period of keto again and within two weeks I'm already down 10 lbs with an expectation that I'll be down another 25 by the end of the year. Keto has really been a lifesaver for me, reversing a trend that saw me as a relatively skinny guy to obese and feeling terrible all the time.

@@MrMuchachos75 Maybe you will save money by eating healthy food because it gives you all the nutrients that you need (not needing as much) as opposed all the money for the unhealthy food that does not provide your body all the nutrients it needs and thus spending more. Thought about this yesterday when I was so shocked in the store. When I eat healthy I feel full and satisfied and when I don’t eat healthy foods, I tend to binge. What is really more expensive? Especially when you factor in possible medical bills and loss of quality of life. Turning 60 soon and doing much self-reflection on what I want my future life to look like. I cannot thank you enough for the improvement in my life quality, your information has turned my life around.

You explained Hypoglycemia well. That was my problem growing up. The doctor told me I was on the border of becoming a Type 2 diabetic. Little did I know at the time that it was from all the sweets and refined carbs I craved. Now I’m a 59 year old woman who watches all my carbs. I chanced upon your channel while researching the keto diet (I had already been on keto for a few months prior to the research; at least i thought I was in keto). I had done weeks of research prior to starting and watched all kinds of channels, some good and some uneducated. I really appreciate the unbiased knowledge on how to REALLY be healthy and more specifically, how to remain healthy while on a low-/no- carb eating pattern such as keto. I had to reimagine my entire daily diet after watching 5 of your videos - I was drinking diet soda, worrying about too much saturated fat, and actively trying to keep my protein intake relatively high. Not to mention, i was leaving out some essential foods for keto, such as avocados (because i was reading too much into the carbohydrate content). My diet is better than it's ever been and I feel great! Keep up the excellent work doc!

Love all your videos! Always so educational! What works for me is intermittent fasting and mostly keto. My metabolism is slow so I only eat once a day 5/6 times a week. Four months into it and I'm down 40 pounds. Still have 60 more to go. Its no longer a diet but like you say, a life style change. What really turn me around was understanding what insulin and fasting does to the body.

That explanation of different diets and effects is the most useful thing I’ve yet come across for clarification. I have ME, went clean keto some years ago, reversed most symptoms, lost a lot of weight. After a couple of years I started sliding into eating some carbs, bread, potatoes, regained a little weight but was okay. Then last year I was under huge stress for over 8 months, literally pure daily panic and fear. I wasn’t sleeping, eating anything and everything, and I began to gain belly fat, that I have never had before. The stressful situation resolved a year ago, but the circle of BG, IR, cravings etc you describe was well established. And I am about 2 stone overweight at least. Your video has helped me a great deal in totally understanding what was going on, although I had an idea. I knew I had to address this, I have been lowering carb intake over a few weeks, and 4 days ago finally removed them all. I went through a bit of a rough patch, but last night I slept 8 hours, today I feel less fatigued and have less general pain. And the cravings are I think almost gone! I always eat pretty clean, even if it’s carbs, have done all my life, and only eat twice a day at most, so I am basically doing ideal keto now. Fish, meat, allowed veg etc. The only foods I miss are my one small spelt loaf that I had each week and potatoes, the latter close to an addiction so probably something I shouldn’t be eating anyway! I really appreciate what you do, it’s wonderful clear information that gives us hope that we can actually get our bodies working correctly again. Thank you!

Great timing. Thanks Doc. I started Keto early last year and lost about 17 kilos by end of 2020 (went from 110.5kg to a very stubborn plateau at 93-94kg at the lowest point) with only moderate exercise. Then just before Xmas started back on the old way of eating (I used Xmas as an excuse to eat what I wanted) and since then gained back 10 of those kilos in pretty quick time. I feel quite ashamed of myself that I let it slip so badly, but at least I finally realised that this has to be a non-negotiable lifestyle each and every day. For me there can be no "Oh to heck with it, I'll eat pizza tonight", or "I'll grab a quick bowl of pasta" because I always found it quite difficult to get back on track after cheat days, and especially cheat weekends. The really great thing about Keto, was that while I was on it I had zero desire for junk like chips, sweets, ice creams, etc .... and hardly ever ate any. I didn't want or need them. Anyway, I plan to start again next week and do Intermittent Fasting with Keto meal plans during the eating window. Keto worked for me and so did IF, so a combination should be great.

Don't be so hard on yourself. I do understand your pain because I have been in your shoes. Its the curse of the genetics and we have to give ourselves some grace and do the best we can. At the end of the day counting calories, exercising, doing keto day in day out is all exhausting making one feel cheated when you see how certain people can eat everything under the sun and never gain weight and have the best blood reports and there's others like you and I who toil away with each ounce of our willpower yet results do'nt come easy. No one eats 100 cals of veggies? That's not much sweet potato at all, and even one bag of romaine has 60 cals. I add a huge handful of power greens and I'm almost there. I have a box of mushrooms and a large onion with my egg scramble, or eat a can of black olives...pretty sure I hit it quite easily every day! Do we get to add fruits like avocado and blueberries...eat those pretty much daily, too. Once u get off the pasta, rice, bread thing, u eat a lot of veggies. I can't eat much more meat than about 5oz...it's very filling!

Thanks doctor for posting this video and explaining so well. I am a person who often watches videos regarding healthy eating. .but in this video I got a bigger picture of how and what I should eat without sticking to any diet plan which we often see online. Thank you once again doctor!🙏

I always did intermittent fasting when I was young...my mother called it “starving myself.” I didn’t have a term for I.F., and called it, “not eating past 6pm.” I used to make my poor mum crazy. She always insisted I was starving myself. I just didn’t feel well if I ate late in the day.

I think the concern especially with young people is that it could potential turn into an eating disorder. I think the key is paying attention to the behaviors of how they are fasting and noticing if it turns into a problem.

Can you speak about the hormonal changes women go through after 40 and how that affects weight gain? And if the keto diet works the same for those women as women who are not going through hormonal changes.

If you have hormonal problems, then you must definitely think about food intolerances... do you eat dairy? Do you eat wheat 🌾 ?

I started LCHF and OMAD a couple of days ago, and I am surprised how easy it is to go the rest of the day through the night and up till the next day on that one meal at around 2 - 3 pm.

Thank you so much for this information. My wife and I started the keto diet a little over two weeks ago. I am diabetic, she is not. My daily blood sugars have dropped dramatically from an average of 180 or so to less than 90 everyday. In fact yesterday I had a low sugar issue with a BG of around 50. I was shaking and seemed very week. So today I am reducing my insulin injection. I have lost about ten pounds since we started. I have reached out to my endocrinologist for guidance but I have not yet received a response. Thank you for sharing this information.

That’s wonderful! If your doctor does not respect you enough to give you a response in a timely fashion -get yourself another doctor. Since you lost weight that mean that your body composition has changed -you have to adjust your dose and your doctor should help you with that- the best to you😎

Dr. Sten, I’m a personal trainer with a background on nutrition. I have to say that this video is probably the best self explanatory and truth all over the board. I had to figure out myself from most of the thing you said, because they don’t teach any in nutrition classes. I adopted the “ Ideal LCHF/Paleo/IF ” by luck years ago, and at 50 years old I never diet neither, I successfully keep an extreme low body fat all year around with plenty energy. Yes I do exercise 6 days/week, I don’t think it’s my genetic that I’ve been given that allows me to be as healthy and in great shape as I am, rather than what you preach in this video. Thank you for the information that you’re putting out there.
